I have a 69 barracuda i intend to make into sort of a 340-S clone. I have seen pix of 69 340-S cars with the emblem under the barracuda script on the fender. Now if the wide vinyl body side tape stripe is used on a 340S car with the 340 callouts in the stripe, are there still chrome 340-S emblems on the fenders along with the stripe, or did they put the fish on those fenders of the cars that got the stripe? I ask because it seems redundant to have the 340 badging and a stripe with 340 call outs on it.

So all you 340 barracuda experts out there what is correct for a 340 S car with body side stripes? A fender fishy, or a second chrome 340 emblem?

Thanks
Matt

Subscribed. When I bought my 69, it had fiberglass fenders on it. I found 340-s emblems and the plan for now is to use them.

I know sales literature isn't always the best as they sometime have details that were changed in actual production.
A 383, I assume 340 would be the same.

In 69 if you got the wide stripes with the call out 340 or 383 I believe no fish

Maybe not related to stripes, but I read on here that a 340-S emblem was no indication if the car was a Formula S or not. Doesnt sound right to me tho....

Correct, in 69 you could get a 340 and not be a Formula-S (not the case for 68)

In 69 3 way to get 340
340 S suspension package silver rear panel
340-S formula S package black rear panel with s emblem.
340 ‘Cuda package. Silver rear tail panel

Wide stripe no fish or engine size emblem.

I did the same to mine. I liked the look of the formula s so I decided to make a clone. I put the 340S emblems where the fender fish were. I also painted my rear trunk trim flat black and replaced the rear fish with a formula S emblem. Couldn’t find a rear 69 emblem, so I painted a 68 emblem black. Still need to paint the front grilles black.

Thank you for all the replies. Looks like the sales literature may have been a pilot car and all the details probably had not been worked out yet.

I have a set of 69 cuda fenders for my kids car. Dont know what they came off of, but 69 fishys dont line up. My 340-S emblems do. That tells me these fenders i got that were in storage since the late 1980s were prob off a 340-S or 383-S car. Most likely a 340 though. More common.

I am going to assemble this one as a 340-S tribute. Was going to mount the 340S emblems on a 73 dart sport hood as call outs, and wanted to install fender fish. Now i am kinda undecided.

Sport stripes (V6) with 340/383 callouts on Formula S no badges. Only stripe delete or V7 cars.

You could get a non 340 formula S with those badges in 69 with what I would call the spring special package. Probably very rare.

If I see a V6 striped car with the badges I will be sceptial!

Anybody have an extra 69 fender handy to make me a template of the hole location for the fishes just in case i want to go that route.

No hurry. I figure something like pencil tracings against the actual fenders LH and RH would work.

I just did that for a guy needing to know where to cut the valance for reverse lights on a 67.

Heres my NOS fender Matt. No holes for script or emblems. Only holes are for the pentastar on the dogleg.

Surprised they did not punch the script as a minimum. They all had that at least! And the Pentastar!

I am thinking i will just put the 340-S emblems on the fenders, or fill the holes altogether and mount em on the dart sport scoop. Or i could put put the 340S emblems on the fenders, and the 69 side stripe without the 340 callouts in the stripe. Like the stripe kit offered by phoenix graphics shown on a 68 fastback in pic below.

I have seen 69 318 cars with this wide tape stripe and no callouts in it. Probably a dealer install thing to "move the iron" off the lots. Maybe a spring special. Stripes and cragar S/S wheels ?

I honestly had no idea why they would punch different holes for the fish and the 340 emblems. Common sense would have been to make em both fit the same holes, but what do i know 50 years after the fact.

For now i think i am going to send the 69 fender fish repops back to Laysons and have Rick send me a pair i need for my 67 unless somebody is interested in some really nice repop 69 fender fish.
