recently I changed all the running gear on my ‘65 Dodge Dart GT Convertible , motor swap transmission, rear end ( 8 3/4 sure grip) front brakes to disc. My problem is that I’m leaking transmission fluid from where the speedometer cable attaches to the transmission . I removed the cable and wiped everything down and no leaks, as soon as I reconnect the speedometer to the transmission it starts leaking again. Any comments or suggestions why this might be happening
Thanks,
Tom

I assume you are running a 66 or later transmission since you mentioned motor/transmission swap. check that the pinion adapter O Ring is not damaged. The fitting on the speedometer cable to the adapter would warrant checking as well.

Their are two "0 Rings" on Speedo attach point, on the 904. One of them is leaking. remove the whole assy, find something to plug the tranny case, cause fluid will leek out fast.
get new "O" Rings, and install on speedo assy. Very easy job, except for the leakage.
Hope this helps. Do you have a fac service manual,????. They come in real handy.

I do have a service manual. I don’t have a leak when I remove the speedo cable, so I’m thinking that O ring by the pinion gear is okay, so is there a O ring missing on the speedo cable itself?

Any good Chrysler Corporation speedometer shop that specializes in early A-body would have plenty of those just right on the shelf. Sometimes they're found in the clearance bin.

Rock Auto has the O Ring and the small seal, the small one is listed under speedo pinion, and the large one just under seals, and o rings.
Look them up under Dodge, Dart, 1965, then, transmission, for the small, and seals, and O Rings for large.

Doesn't hurt to put a thin layer of black RTV on the casing sealing surface after the "O" ring replacement. Don't forget to lube the "O" ring upon installation and orient the pinion housing correctly for your gear.
