So I see this thread

New(ish) Chargers, are they any good?

And I've been disappointed that not only did "Ma" not continue the Dakota, and did not install a hemi in 'em like she did Durango, but we "are stuck" with the 3.7/ 4.7 thing, which near as I can tell, "I want no part of."

So is the newish 3.6 V6 something that could be swapped into a Dakota? What platform/ electronics/ bell housing etc etc does this use

Second "in general" what "newish" engines ARE OK and have the 3.7/ 4.7 been fixed? What years apply?

I haven't personally worked on any 3.7L or 4.7L engines. I've watched some YouTube vids, though, and they seem unduly complicated to me. They have these elaborate lower end girdle frames. Add on multiple chains and VVT, it can be intimidating. However my daughter has 200k on her jeep 4.7 and they have had zero issues, but they maintain it pretty well. At least it has an external type water pump, so it's not a ticking time bomb like the 2.7's.
My wife just bought a Cherokee w/ 3.2L. It's just a smaller internal version of the 3.6L Pentastar. It's smooth, quiet and pretty powerful. "They" say it's a great engine, we'll see.

I have a 2004 Dakota 3.7 with 185,000 miles. Only had to change a water pump so far. It doesn't have the balls my 3.9 had in my old 1993 Dakota, but it's been reliable.

We picked up our Charger with 41K on the odometer. After a day of driving around I can say I'm surprised at how smooth that little 3.6 is. I can remember when a domestic eight cylinder with 200 hp was a thing and this engine is rated at something like 290. It feels pretty spunky for a daily driver. Then again, I've only gotten it away from the wife twice, so what do I know?

Thing is I've heard a fair amount of bad about about 3.7/ 4.7's and really want no part of em

@myduster360 is the man you want to talk to about anything concerning the new 3.6 V6 as he has swapped one into a 72 Scamp.
We have one in our 2016 200c and they are fun engines!

^^Tell me some stuff^^ "Let's say" I bought a Dakota "blowd up" 3.7/4.7. What would I have to do to swap that in, 4x4?

What belll housing, mounts, fabricate, what electronics, etc?

EDIT Hold off LOL saw your build link..............

Ma mopar made a bastard son when she threw the Charger name on a 4 door sedan.

I don’t care what engine they put in it.

And when they brought the Dart name back from the dead my only thought was “2 doors and a hemi or GTFO.”

She let me down on that one too.

Heh.......and the "Magnum" name has been so abused you never want to get into an argument about what a "magnum" "is."

Everyone loves to ***** about the 4 door chargers but y’all are OBVIOUSLY forgetting the abominations of the late 70s and 80s that were “chargers”

hahaha, that's harsh, I like the 71-74 chargers, more so now than then. Ditto on the RR's. I like the 78 Dodge cop cars like on the TV show "Hunter". I still have some 79 300's and a couple Magnums.
