Rock Auto....Never Again

-
Ok I will admit. 68 rock auto china garb ball joint failed. Dont need to elaborate.
If your spending bunch of of money on a rehab or resto in any fashion. I wouldnt feel safe selling a so called resto/repaired car with china parts on it.
If your not willing to spend the xtra 20 bucks on a saftey considered part, I would be worried. My 50 cents.

What a total pain in the *** rock auto is. I thought I was going to save all this money with them, but not so much. Ordered a bunch of suspension parts from them. Took over a week to get them. Shipped from the Bronx NY, I'm in Cali. Once they finally arrived, the 2 KYB struts were in different boxes, one sealed, the other with the strut rod sticking out the end of the box !!! The dampening on the 2 struts were different. Its almost like 1 was new, the other sitting around, so they threw it in a box and shipped it.
Now the fun part. THEY HAVE NO PHONE NUMBER TO CALL SOMEONE !!!!!!
Now I'm going back and forth emailing, just to get them sent back. They are asking for photos, what is wrong with it, did shipping do it, full cavity search. This whole experience hasn't been worth the $10 I might have saved. Could actually cost me....Stay tuned.

Here on out, its Summit for me. No questions asked, return shipping label, nicely boxed, 2 day shipping etc etc.
On top of that I CAN CALL SOMEONE ON THE PHONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

F**K rock auto.
Yup - the packing, especially from the NYC area locations is rock bottom. They don't understand the basic fundementals of packing. Return system is a bit of a PIA, but it does work. Good luck and I could understand if you never use them again.
I still use them for some things, mostly because the locally owned parts stores near me are gone. :( So for me its not so much for price, its also about availability.

What I really can't believe is that anyone still buys KYB's. Worst shocks ever. If you won't spend the money to buy good shocks just get a set of the stock looking Gabriels. They're cheaper said:
Dont know to like or agree

Yeah, rockauto is rough with shipping and shipping times - summitt

Look how these hacks shipped me the struts I ordered.
2 different boxes, one hanging out the box. Plus they were damaged.
Now I got to play their email game to get my money back.
If this is what your into for "possibly" saving a buck, go for it.
Plus it took 8 days to get to my door. Summit 2 days, in a professionally shipped box.
Total Hacks !!!!!!!!
Never Again.

Not that I'm a big fan of RockAuto, but those boxes were packed by KYB. Those weren't re-packed by RockAuto. Whatever restraining device KYB used to hold the shock compressed failed, so the end popped out of the box during shipping. That's not on RockAuto. That damage is totally on KYB and maybe the delivery service.

Now, the customer service failures are entirely on RockAuto, they should replace that no questions asked.

I personally LOVE communicating via email, especially on disagreements.

You get a "paper" trail so you can verify what each party said, and you can conduct business at times convenient to both parties.

Absolutely check pricing and shipping from several sources before buying, or it's on you if you pay too much. I've had a small number of items that were cheaper at NAPA or Advance, but usually RA is significantly cheaper.

Moog, Wagner, Raybestos, etc are usually the same no matter where you buy them (usually).

The only "issue" I've had is the brake calipers I ordered were two different styles.
No effect on operation, just aesthetics.

...and Carquest is now part of Advance/Discount.

I think u nailed it !^^^^^^^^^

I have had good luck on a few items but as soon as shipping comes from multiple depos I’m out. RockAuto has a great parts search which I use for searching Summit or Amazon.

I get a lot of stuff from amazon because the prices are good and usually very easy to return items and free 2day shipping. Hell just last week I found they sent me two different Centric drums. Called and they replaced the one wrong one and said keep the wrong part.

Summit is great too. Customer service is legit.

Sorry Johnny. Must be a Ford curse. The Mopar Gods know what you’ve done!!!! Lol.

I buy most of my stuff local from NAPA or Federated.

That said I use RA as a price and application guide with the occasional purchase.

Right now I'm ordering wheels bearings/hubs for my DD. I get jobber price. NAPA is $105 each side for the silver line parts... Federated is $109... RA has them for $45 for the average ChiCom to $190 for OEM.

I'm buying the same brand as Federated sells for $80-ish... Moog.

Years ago when I was promoting hit rid shows we gave away $25 RA gift cards. One wasn't picked up so I used it. I bought $25 worth of oil filters for my TR-3...5 filters came from two different warehouses and the shipping was $27.00...yikes.
Last year I ordered a front high pressure fuel pump for my F350...they sent an in-tank pump. Took three weeks to get it right.

Drove past their WI warehouse...not a sign on the building. Must have the CIA running things.

I priced all the parts to refresh my 8-1/4.bearings,seals and every brake component.
Rock auto was way more money once they added shipping.
I got stung on transmission parts when i did my 904.description was wrong. I three it on a shelf, may need it on a newer trans at some point.

I ordered my carpet from RA. Price was great, shipping was reasonable.
Couldnt get a price in canada even remotely close.

F**K rock auto.
I learned my listen a long time ago.
Summit racing rocks!

Ordered from RA once, and the parts were generic crap and wouldnt work. Needed coil springs for the back of the wife’s Subaru. Supposed to be tapered at one end, just one big coil. PIA to send em back, ordered from the dealership, was twice the price of RA, but they were correct. The kicker was it set the job back over a week waiting for the wrong parts and having to reorder from the dealer. It’s the wife’s daily, so she had to drive the big van. Screw RA, I buy local and pick it up in person. And, although our town only has about 3k people, we have 3 auto parts stores!

I used to use RockAuto but have pretty much stopped based on the same things everyone else has said. I do remember them being better back when I first got into working on cars about 10 years ago, since then other online parts suppliers have gotten better and it seems like RA has slacked off. Between Summit, Mancini, my local machine shop and auto parts stores there's no real reason to use them anymore. Although replacement parts from most stores have become JUNK, even the "premium" stuff. And if you don't have a Chevy, Ford, Toyota or Honda good luck finding an auto parts store that has your part in stock anymore.

I personally refuse to use Amazon for anything because of that sh*thead Jeff Bezos
