Ok guys got a question for ya, I have the Comp Cams EX275XL cam in the 440. 1.6 roller rockers, B3 geometry correcting kit and new pushrods. The thing is really running nice and strong especially when my foot is in it. At cruise speeds, say between 2000-2500rpm it has some valve train noise. From what I’ve read it’s normal due to the closing ramp on the cam and nothing to be concerned with. It also seems to have a lite exhaust pop at cruise but not like a miss, nothing you can feel, just hear. Step on or lift the throttle slightly and it’s gone. More characteristics of the cam? Or possibly just a tuning issue. I still have to check the actual rotor phasing. Just not thrilled about drilling a hole in a $50 MSD cap. Other than the little noises this thing is running like a scalded ape!

Sewing machine on steroids is the sound and yes it’s due the fast rate. Absolutely normal noise, my XE285HL is friggin awesome in my 470.

That would most likely be a slightly lean condition in that cylinder. Intake manifolds seldom have good fuel distribution. What intake & is it a Holley or Carter? It is possible you could stager jet the carb so it feeds that cylinders runner a hair richer to solve the popping issue.

If the ramps are so fast that it makes noise, I would be concerned about the valves and seats getting beat up and worn prematurely...

I'm running an Edelbrock TM7 intake and FITech fuel injection. That should be fairly easy to investigate. I can check/adjust the afr at cruise. Thanks for the input.

I hope a tweak of the dial helps.
The XE line is known for being loud.
