Do not buy anything from Daryl Finch @ the Junk Yard in Phelan CA

-
Yep...Daryl Finch
Haven't seen him in a few years at the Flings.
Its all starting to come clear now. That's to bad he couldn't
keep it together. Yes he wasn't the most pleasant, and pricey.
But he had the parts, if you needed. I've bought a few things from him over the years.Hopefully he can make everything right with the people he wronged.

Now its time to do your due diligents. Reviews are the new word of mouth. If you received anything less than exemplary service, post excruciating detail everything he did wrong. Not only does this punish him for his behavior, but it helps keep other from making the mistake of trusting him. It also gives you negotiating clout, but don't forgo the legal system too!!!

Just wondering if you ever got your A/C unit.

I had my difficulties with him. I bought fenders and hood...which he said were perfect 66 Coronet 500 pieces.

Man...we ain't even close to any version of perfect I've seen. I ended up re-buying from a yard in San Antonio. I did get the parts eventually, long after I gave up on him and received the parts from Texas. Now the parts (ugly parts and not Coonet "500", you people with this model know the difference) sit in my garage. It will be a "cold, cold day" before I use him again.

Others have had luck with him though. I think it's the "shipping out" that slowed this to a frustration point and when I threatened legal action....that's probably why he sent me crappy incorrect parts

Wow, that sucks. Me personally, i try to make all efforts to list everything as honestly as i can including pictures of any flaws when i sell. When money is sent, i make every effort to get the item in the mail or UPS the very next day if possible. I know i hate waiting on stuff only to have the wrong thing or something thats misrepresented sent to my doorstep. Karma is a *****. It will catch up with him.

I never did receive the AC system that was paid for.
He is a piece of work and no one should buy anything from him.
He can't be trusted.....
V/r

Need to meet this Finch fellow love to choke his *** till he is on his last breathe!!!Really hate these clowns cause the make a good guy look bad ,hope he scams someone in jail lmao..maybe he will get his let's all pray!!

In case anyone cares...his "mail address" is a box in a strip mall in Phelon,Ca. There's not a junk yard for miles, I think the yard is in AZ.

The Phelon police station is actually across the street......that helped me a bit

Isnt the Arizona border like 250 miles from Phelon? Sumthin' aint right.

He has a shaker hood E-body 'vert in his yard? Yeah...how old is that pic. Probably 1975. Check is the worst way to pay besides mailing cash unless you post date the check for 3 weeks and tell him if I dont get it, I stop payment on the check.

I remember seeing that jerkoff at the Spring and Fall Fling in Woodley park. Yeah, he had 5 or 6 swap spaces usually closest to the street in the first row. He had neatly set up displays, helpers on site and NONE of them were allowed to quote prices. There would be crowds around and everyone waiting for their "sales rep" to call over to this guy to give a price. Hard to negotiate with him when the guy is run ragged hopping over parts in 6 spaces.
He was never very friendly. maybe he was just overwhelmed?
I'm not a cheap *** by any means but he did have his stuff priced like plywood in Florida before the hurricane hits the land. This was even on easy to find things like Rallye wheel centers, 8 3/4 center sections and emblems.
Once I needed a headlight relay for my Charger that was in the show field. It was clicking a bit on the way to the show. He wanted some ludicrous price for it, something like $80 for a USED electrical part. I ended up sliding under the dash and after just cleaning the terminals, the clicking stopped.

I paid a high price for what was claimed to be "worth it". I was disappointed, but someone else might have been happy. He's all about "the sale" it seems...after he has the money, it's just labor on him.

To bad, I'm always looking for old Mopars, and around here, they all need something....things that I'm fairly certain he has. I won't be put in this situation again. I'm sure he won't loose any sleep over the loss on my business, I'll find parts elsewhere.

I've dealt with Tony's Parts {NJ I think) with great success. They know there stuff and I never felt victimized.

Now is the time to stop talking and take action . I'm thinking a class action suit is in order . Or better yet , Federal mail fraud charges . This asshat belongs in jail . The other alternative is illegal but you know what I mean . Get his name out there as a bad dude anda s long as you can prove your words it's not liable . Use social media . This is why e-Bay,craigslist and buying parts sight unseen suck big . Unless I can see a part and examine it , I ain't buyin' it .

ebay /paypal buyer protection =nuff said !

the yard is in phelan I have been there..he lives in big bear ca....
I too have been to his yard in Phelan. He has butt loads of really nice Mopar cars and parts.
He is also very irogant and proud. If you want to pay the highest price possible then he is your guy.
I hear tell that he is in trouble with the IRS.
I'll never do business with him again.

This guy? He also had pretty painted motors on cradles lined up on a flatbed...presentation was nice, prices were not.

Is this the same guy who used to make fake build sheets that would fool about anyone but keen eyed people like Barry and Scott?

Kerndog…..thank you for the new saying! "Higher than plywood in FL before a hurricane hits."

Usually when a guy switches from good guy to bad guy it’s usually for the same reason. I’ve seen a lot of good people go down real fast.

We had a term for some things known as "Trend Setter" pricing.... he was it.

Any time his minions came to my spot the prices always doubled or tripled. I had tags on everything and one of them picked something up and asked if that was the price. I said it was in British pounds so multiply the number by 3 for exchange rate. LOL Eyes rolled back in his head from the math problem and they left. Good riddance!

He was a great source for info. Go ask about a part, get the number/picture of it and then search the swap spots and find it for 1/4 the price. That's how you used him when at a swap. :)

Oddly enough , that`s what I did with things I needed , that were advertised on this forum , when I was building my car. I always beat everyones prices for stuff I needed on here.
Some of u people are nutss !!!

< just coming into this thread. its interesting. if I may offer some suggestions:
if those of you that got ripped off could each can file a complaint with the state attorneys office for his scammy business practices. He has to have a business license and with wrecking yards, many states also place them under state patrol oversight/inspections, etc. There are several ways to apply pressure.
1 complaint wont do it, you need multiple complaints for them to act. This normally leads to at minimum an cursory investigation as the state AGO has a duty to act on behalf of a consumer, which often leads to uncovering other things..like the previously mentioned IRS issues, epa violations, and in the case of a local yard to me...the uncovering of stolen cars being stripped & buried..

You can file with BBB, they have no real teeth, but it creates a papertrail of sorts and public record which helps others looking to research before they buy.

Postal mail fraud can kick in, if you've sent payment via the US mail. Dont expect much of anything from USPS, but again, you are creating history & pattern as well as a legal papertrail. If you paid via credit card, charge back is easy enough.

Finally, you can always file a small claims action. In cases like this, its almost a sure win (he either proves he sent it & that you received or he cant) in that, you can tack on all cost, including travel (you will have to file in his jurisdiction - but sometimes can be done via the web or thru a law office near him), you can then add on lawyer, court/service fees, etc. He cannot ignore a court summons, or he risk a default judgment against him, which then turns into a collective action..a $750 case can turn into $4500 judgement real fast and a super headache for him!
OP - Id start by sending him a registered letter, known as "a pay or surrender" ie: repay the amount paid or put the parts in the mail. Be sure to list date of order, amount paid & how, all info.
Give him a deadline, normally it should be 10-14 days from receipt of the letter.
Inform him, further legal action will take place on day 14 if $$/parts (as ordered) are not received in full.
Following that with no response, you need to pursue it...clowns like this get away doing what they do, because no one stands up to them. it also kills our hobby and the mututal trust we all should - and could have with each other...maybe its just me, but ya, I'd spend $1000 to get back my $750, just to let him know Im not taking getting ripped off and to make his life miserable for having tried to do so in the process. One can also unleash with online complaints and reviews, to help others not get ripped off too.
...or do nothing, which is exactly what scam artist like him hope you do.

Understood.
The thing is, I did get the parts....just long after I bought parts elsewhere ( better parts than what I receiver from DF ...and cheaper, certainly faster). I don't want to wait, I'm doing my best to keep my projects from stalling. This isn't a mistake that I'll make again, others be warned. Some have had rave reviews on this guy, so I guess he's not a total $#!t head to everyone. It seems that the issues involve shipping, maybe it's too inconvenient for him.

No matter...he's unreliable to me in Massachusetts.
