Postal money order?

So you are saying the money order works? Wasn't that the guys question?

Fact is if you use USPS money orders or PayPal or Western Union.... you can get scammed any way you look at it.

Do your research and trust your gut.
Heck even large corporations can rip you off if you let them. Less likely, but they can.
Just do your “do diligence” and you will be okay.

I mainly deal M.O.'s., or in person. Have taken one check and waited till cleared before sending parts. I've never had a problem with M.O., and that's how I'll continue. When I receive the M.O., I ship the parts and e-mail the buyer a tracking number. I've had buyers send certified and e-mail the tracking number. It may cost a couple dollars more for certified, but so does pay pal. Not dealing with pay pal. If the buyer doesn't want to deal in M.O., then parts will sit till someone comes along. If that doesn't happen and they start taking up too much space, as hard as it is, they go for scrap. Everyone loses, but until sold they're my parts and I can do what I want with them. Buyer is not going to tell me how I'm going to sell him my parts.

Have your part ready to ship, when you get the Postal Money order take everything to the post office,
they will cash the money order on the spot if they have enough cash on hand and then you can ship the part out while your there if your shipping through the US Postal system.

Our post office in Gray, Georgia is very small. I've been told to go to the bank almost every time with money orders in the past because "of all the problems we've had with fake ones". lol They won't even take their own money order. And the thing is, all they have to do is punch it up in their system and they can FIND the serial number and verify that it's real, but they "don't like" doing that. No, it's Paypal for me or I will just miss out.

Some people don't have a checking account or paypal so that is the way they pay. I deal with that quite a bit. I just cash it then send out the parts.

I've run into that, too. All I think is "In the 21st century?" and I move on.

A money order is the same as cash. When you get it the post office will cash it for you so you don't even have to fool with the bank . I use nothin but postal money orders and only accept them as payment. Screw the credit card companies and their fees. I'm sick and tired of having my pocket picked every time I do something by these parasites.

I've lately noticed a trend where even some of the larger companies want cashiers checks or money orders. I recently ordered a rotating assembly and the seller wanted a cashiers check or money order. They're tired of paying the fees I guess. Even the local Kroeger grocery stopped taking Visa. Money orders are fairly safe if you exercise a little caution, especially USPS money orders.

If he is sending you an Postal Money Order, wait till you get the M.O., then ship him the parts, that way you wont loose out. You can deposit the M.O. anytime to your account. M.Os. are safe.

Wasn`t all that long ago, there were a lot of FAKE postal money orders being made , haven`t heard of it in a while tho.
Paypal only for me / "buyer protection !"

How does that work?
I cash it before sending the part or....?

Yes, wait until you have the MO, and as said above if your local PO has the funds available to cash it, go there cash it and ship the item.

As also was mentioned the MO number will be in the USPS system and you can verify it's authenticity, if you so desire.

I have never had an issue with a USPS money order, I would shy away from any other type MO though due to the many cases of fraudulent money orders..

As mentioned give the MO time to clear. I was sent fake money orders a couple years back. Could NOT tell with naked eye they were counterfeit.
Be careful....a known member on here uses that "trick"

I take Postal Money Orders, I take them to the post office and cash them then I ship the parts, I go late in the day so they have some money on hand.

I love USPS postal money orders!
When I revive the PMO I use it to send the item to the purchaser. Never had a time when they wouldn’t cash it.
A normal money order I wait until it clears the bank.

Come to think of it...were they counterfeiting USPS MO's or was it some other MO? I didn't think it was the USPS MO's.

I got scammed by a guy who had been on abodies for 3 years, sent him a money-o-gram from Walmart, had his cell number, his address, and talked to what was suppose to be his wife on the phone, it took about 2 weeks for him to text me all the photos of parts i was going to get, then i sent money, no parts, my calls blocked, called apartment complex owner,of address he gave me, said he had moved from that address 6 months earlier, ran a back ground check , he had 4 alias, and 5 different addresses, but that was only the 1st time, got another here on abodies, been on here 2 years, gave me an address, said no paypal, MO only, i went to globe explore and searched address of street # and town, it was a vacant lot, when i called him back , he said oh i gave you the wrong town, thats where i use to live, gave me a different address, i done globe explore on new address and town, it was a school, i got the name of the school and called it, ask secretary if they knew anybody by the name he had given me,she didn,t ask about any students with the name given me, she didn't know of any, called the guy back and ask what was going on, he hung up, he disappeared off abodies, then i went to bbodies and there he was selling parts demanding MO only, no paypal. Long story short, there are more scammers than you can imagine on this site, so i advise you to be careful who you trust sending parts before you get money ,as far as a money order, go to your bank, they can recognize a fake MO without problems, my wife has worked at a bank 29 years and they get fake ones that they refuse on a daily basis. The game is, if they have it sent to an address that don't exist, they go to the post office and say they gave wrong address by mistake and show their ID and pick up the MO, that way, you have no way to track their true address to even give a police report, the guy that had 5 addresses i mentioned, 3 were in the city limit, 2 inside the county, when i drove to the police department, the city and county police got in an argument of who was going to serve the warrant, they said i would have to find out for sure which one was his true address, advised them i was from out of state and wasn't a detective, that was their job to find out and serve the papers

You should out them and give people a heads up. At least PM and let me know who it is. I already have a good idea. lol

I have not been scammed, YET. But I do know some that have. One was via PayPal, the other via USPS. The PayPal victim got nothing, The USPS victim got a Postal Inspector involved and the scammer was charged and convicted of a federal offense, and he did receive more than 1/2 his stolen money returned. I haven't heard if he ever got the rest back. Anyway, for me I like the security of the USPS mo. If the seller doesn't accept USPS, oh well, move on.

money order is fine but i'd wait for it to clear before i sent any parts out...

thats why i hate that money order crap.. wait for it to get to the seller, wait for it to clear then wait for my parts...

as a seller i could probably sell the part 3 times before the damn money order got to me and cleared...

paypal or others like it is the only way to go for me.. i know there is a guy that sells quite a bit on this site that doesn't take paypal. he has had some things i wanted but didn't "need". he lost the sale because he wouldn't take paypal.. would have had instant payment instead of waiting for payment and then for it to clear.

From a purely business standpoint.....

We treat ANY money order exactly the very same way we treat a check. It gets deposited into our bank account and the bank processes it just like any other ordinary check. It usually takes 5-7 business days to clear(just like a check), and when our bank says the money order has cleared...then we ship out the parts.

ANY money order can be counterfeited, no matter where it comes from(or appears to come from....).

did he use friends and family payment or the buying goods way with paypal?

I'm not familiar with that nomenclature. This was about 10 yrs ago. This coworker of mine was buying baseball cards. He purchased over ebay, I believe, via PP, a particular card for a couple hundred dollars. He waited to receive the card, but when it hadn't arrived, he called the seller, and the seller said he mailed it out, Then the seller said he had mailed it to the wrong address, and it had been returned undeliverable, so he'd resend it. Well, this went on and on until the time limit expired for PayPal intervention. And when PayPal was finally notified of the problem, their policy was nothing could be done.

All this talk about counterfitting......some folks even counterfit green American dollars. There is a way to be dishonest in most every form of payment. A USPS Money Order is reasoably secure but be wise with any transaction.

Pay pal sucks also, I got jacked twice both times from E-bay and once when hacked on E-bay.
Pay pal did absoluty jack **** nothing.
But I use pay pal all the time when buying from established vendors, Summit etc.

Before all the electronic methods of paying came to be, there was three options ,check cash or Postal Money orders. Postal Money Orders were considered the best, safest way to pay. Now days? You just can't trust any method. Deposit it and wait till it clears or go the the PO and cash it. Just a sign of the times.
