1974 Scamp some assembly required

You have the dots wrong. The dot on the cam gear should be at the 6 o'clock position NOT 12 o'clock. Crank gear is right.
Sounds like its purring like a kitten from here Haha
It is! But there's a reason I didn't crack the throttle over an idle. Die's OR stumble's, backfire's then dies as soon as it move's off idle the least little bit. Haha. Gonna start tuning on the carb when I get home. Re-built Edelbrock 1405.

But I have a question and yes I went back through and looked first...no I'm not being an ***...did you fix the cam gear and put it at 6 o'clock position? cause no matter how much timing and carb building you do the dots aren't ever going to line up just in passing when turning...Top dead center dots should face each other cam 6:00, crank 12:00.

Just wondering cause I never saw where you said yes I tore the timing plate off and fixed the gear on the cam

All good. Don't need to.

"Top dead center dots should face each other cam 6:00, crank 12:00."

Agreed. IF your timing for tdc on cyl 6. For tdc on cyl 1 it's 12 o'clock and 12 o'clock.

Been covered ALOT. Start about post #11 and read this:
Timing chain

Started today by tuning the 1405 properly. Adjusted the idle mix screws and went up on the accelerator pump linkage. Fine tuned the timing with a light. Done. Raps up nice and sounds amazing! Thanks everyone!
I'll post a video tomorrow.

Brand new junk. Why, out of the five ignition boxes that I have in my shop, did the only one that start and run the car look the oldest and most beat up. Oh yeah, junk. One black junk. Two blue junk. One nos in my son's car that works. Some sort of old Chrome one in my car that works. Done with them. Will be going with the 4 pin HEI GM type module.

This is the "good" one. Looks like it has a real transistor.

Well there was lots of variables and issues to work through but taking a methodical approach and thinking about what you're doing, you get through it. With help from my FABO brothers! And to me it's fun. Tinkerin' with something and figurein' out what's wrong is very satisfying.

Rebuilt Edelbrock 1405 that is on the car has just been giving me fits. Does fine for a little bit and seems to start running out of fuel and falling flat. So I threw on a 750cfm 1407 that I got from a trade with @RustyRatRod
The junkyard 360 seems to like it! Think I'll play with it for a little while this afternoon see what happens. Thanks Rob. I'll post some pictures later.

Cool! I am glad it went to somebody that can use it. It was going to be a while or not at all for me.

I'm satisfied with where the engine install is. Transmission makes the wheels go round. Need to connect the kickdown. Will have to dial it all in when it's road worthy. Guess I've put it off long enough, so now it's on to the dash wiring, trim painting and re-assembly.

Seen a guy hide the hei 4 pin module in a hollowed out mopar ignition box. Makes it plug n play. Sounds like you got plenty of suitable candidates.

Yeah I've been looking for that. Didn't someone here do it? I don't remember the thread, or who did it? I was hoping it was in the how to article forum. I can't find it, but it should be. I just went ahead and bought the heat sink and a Flamethrower 1.5 ohm coil. I don't really care about it looking factory for now.

I cant wait to see the next installment on the scamper build thread.
Thanks buddy appreciate you following. Unfortunately nothing's going to happen tomorrow. Even I will take Mother's Day off. Haha

Wait a minute, wifey IS going to breakfast and an art show with her mom.

Noooo I better do the laundry or something.

Oh i didnt do the mod, i just saw it being done, and squirreled away the idea. Perfect for cars wired with electronic. Connect the wires together for the ballast, or hollow out the ballast and install a jumper wire in it.

Oh I thought you used the bracket that screws it directly to (underneath) the distributor.

Going this route. Going to hang it right on the inner fender where the factory box would go. Don't give a damn what them Cheby boys say. Give them something to cackle about.

Made a decision. I could give half *** reasons why I'm going this route. Reliability, 45 + yo harnesses, wacky speedometers, 5v gauges, corroding fuse boxes, glass fuses. All not insurmountable. Truth is, I want to do it. And for this car, originality isn't a concern.
