Ok guys. Anyone every had a racecar that ran the same number with in a a couple of hundredths everytime ? I know what a problem to have right ! Buddy of mine is trying to make his car run 5.70s. He wants to run the 5.80 index race. The car run tonight at XRP raceway in Ferris Texas 75% humidity and approx 80 degree air. It 5.97 at 114. Last week he ran 5.99 with good air and 40%. He tried leaving at a diff rpm. Shifting diff rpm. Diff tire press. He even put the car on alcohol . the car ran 5.98 114. No matter what we do to this car it doesn't speed up or slow down. The car is 68 Camaro with a 532 with a 1050 dom. 488 gear. The car runs very well. He bought the just as I have described it. He has not changed anything but trying the alcohol. The only reason he tried the alcohol was it picked his other car up 4 10ths. 7.20 to 6.80s. Just was thinking out loud. Maybe one of you could think of something. Jets, timing, plugs, ignition all the usually things have already been done. And all was spot on.

That seems like a lot for a big cube big block. It may have too much gear.

That's just it. The guy he just bought the car from lives approx 100 miles away and ran 5.80s with the same setup. He has the time slips. He called the guy. The guy told us what he did to make the car run 5.80s. It just want lol !! I was thinking about getting some o2 in the race fuel. Just to see what that would do

Any altitude difference?

I'm not trying to be a smart azz and l don't know much about drag racing ( been a circle tracker all my life) but try changing the driver.
Let another (good) driver make a couple passes. Have the previous owner make a couple. You might be surprised as to what the "problem " is.
I see it all the time in the kind of racing l do. I have done it myself. A guy asked me to drive his car one nite. Usually a mid pack car. I won the race that nite. Track champion came over afterwards wondering who was driving the car that nite.
Not one thing was changed on the car itself.
What was changed was what was IN the car.
Just saying....

That's very good advice. Thank you. I've seen that very thing

You should start with looking at the incrementals on the time slip of the 5.80 run, then compare to your current runs so you can see where the issues are. For example, if the 60' time is off but the MPH is the same, then you may have a tire issue or suspension setting issue....If you are down on MPH then you have a motor tuning issue, etc.

To be honest, if everything is working as it should, going from a high 5.9x to 5.7x takes a LOT more power...you may just have to run another race.

This. I had a friend who could literally jump into another guys car and pick up .1-.15 and do it any time. He was that good. He got some money behind him because with his talent the money wanted him in an alcohol FC. The problem was he was over 330 pounds and was maybe 5'10 which made his driving all the better. He tried losing the weight but never did. Then cancer got him.

That guy could drive his *** off.

Lol ! 3 different drivers. 3 5.97s in a row. He said he will just stick to 6.0 index racing and keep winning the money. He is going to leave well enough alone ! Thanks y'all.

Are you fatter than the guy who used to drive it?

The guy he bought the car from weighs more than any of us.

Ok well that answers that. lol Maybe it's the driver thing. I always got better times in a friend's drag car. Even though I hadn't raced regularly in like ten years. He would just holler over "hay Rob, come drive my car!" and I would go cut a better time. lol Sometimes that's just how it is.

Most of the time if I had a car that was not changing ET with large DA swings it was FAT.

Fat tunes are generally less sensitive to DA changes

We did lean the car down just to see. It did run .02 slower 5.99 . so we put the old jets back in she 5.97 3 more times.
