COLD-CASE Radiators - Looking for advice and user experience

-
I use one and love it! :)

Seriously, there are at least 20 A-body members that I have personally helped set them up with a rad or kit. I'm pretty sure everyone is very happy. You should get some members chiming in soon.

In the mean time, Lmk if there is anything I can do for you.

I have one on my 68 Dart GTS 340, the quality of this radiator is second to none. I didn't have to modify anything, it bolted right in and my factory shroud bolted right to it. There is a post on here just a few below yours titled Small Block Radiator and Shroud, I posted some pictures on that post of my radiator. I painted my black to look a little more factory. PM me if you have anymore questions

I have a 440 in my 70 duster that I race, i currently have a griffin aluminum radiator, mercury mystique type electric fans with separate thermostatic controls, a flow cooler water pump. I run E85 and aluminum heads and yet I still have issues with the motor getting too warm. I can only guess that its the radiator at this point. This motor is aprox 650 hp. Can you steer me in the right direction?

Since you race, I assume you are getting hot sitting in the staging lanes and then it probably gets worse coming back to the pits? Griffin makes a nice radiator. So the first thing I would ask is what size is the unit. Is it a 22" or 26" and is it dual 1" or dual 1 1/4". Griffin makes both. If you already have a 26" and the larger tube model, then you have to look elsewhere for your heating issues.

It is the 26", not sure on core size but total thickness seems to be 3". I was doing street strip with my last motor so I went big. I'll see if I can get it flow checked. This motor should runner cooler. Thanks

If that core is 3" and it's a Griffin, then it's dual 1 1/4" tubes which is very good. I'd love for you to be a Cold Case user but you have something else going on there.

I really need to figure out what the issue is. I would like to have a smaller radiator to save some weight up front but not at the expense of reduced cooling . This unit is huge.

It's probably 18lb empty. Then with all the fluid, it is quite possible you could save 20lbs with a smaller unit but, like you said, you need to figure out why it's getting so hot. Some of the posts in your topic are worth checking out.

What thermostat are you running with your flowkooler waterpump? I ran a "high flow 180" with my flowkooler and aluminum radiator and I had issue with it getting hot too. Switched out to a Milodon 160* balanced flow high flow thermostat and it's been running perfect since. Even an hour of idling it never went over 160 at the thermostat housing and 136 on the upper hose. Evidently if you don't have a balanced flow thermostat with these flowkoolers they pump so much coolant it actually prevents the thermostat from opening like it should. Worth a shot if you don't have one of those balanced flow thermostats. I think they were like 27 bucks.

Looking for anyone out there that has bought from COLD-CASE. I have sourced one that I like from the link below. I am looking for my 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger. I want to be confident in there quality and fit.

70-72 A,B Body 17x22 Auto Aluminum Performance Radiator | Cold Case Radiators

Thanks,
Ron

Thats the EXACT cold case radiator im looking at also for my 1972 dart with 440. Mine has the 17x22" stock radiator still and it cant quite handle it when its 90 out. The only thing stopping me from ordering is that i dont know if the cold case 17x22" will be enough to do the job.. I know it would HAVE to do better than my stock one with those big tubes they use, but just not sure if it will be enough or if im going to have to go with a 26" and start hacking my core support up..

Don't forget Cold Case has a 60 day cool guarantee. Try it and if it doesn't do the job, return it for an upgrade or a full refund.

Really? No hassle about it or anything?

No hassle. We normally ask for details of your situation so we can hopefully help solve some other problem that might exist but in your case, you'd have a topic on this forum that you can refer us to. It's pretty simple.

To us, having that kind of information about various applications and cooling results is worth taking back the radiator with no hassles. It's really good data for us.

COOL! What kind of price on that radiator?

Honestly I dont remember. I'm going to work on it this week. I'll know soon.
So I finally got around to checking some things. I do have a 26" Griffin radiator with dual 1.25 cores. This is a cross flow side tank radiator. I do not have a t stat or restrictor at this time. The reason is that I used a oring seal, swivel housing that is technically for GM. A gm t stat fits the housing but is too small for my water pump housing. So I need to either put a mopar t stat housing back on and get a t stat or ...
