Pre 66 intake bolt modifications info neeed.

-
64 and 65 have the smaller bolts and the odd angle. 66 and newer had the normal bolts and angle.

You have to hog out the holes larger and at a different angle. Kind of a Mickey Mouse modification to make it work.

Ok but it can be done correct ???
Im only asking because Offy is still in business but they are not producing this intake anymore for the small block Chrysler.

Ok. Let's back up the bus here. What intake do you want to use and what do you want to bolt it on? If your engine is a 67 or newer small block those 4 barrel intakes are a dime a dozen.

$75 swap meet price to buy an edelbrock performer intake to fit late heads.

...or $50 going price for factory iron intake.

or are you re-drilling a late intake to fit early heads?

I have new alum heads going on a LA
Intake is a medium rise 2x4 offy new
If I want to convert To 2x4 set up this intake will work for me.

I have seen a few early intake modifications. Afro Ingenuity comes to mind.

That makes more sense. If you want it it done nice have a machine shop do it so they can machine bolt/washer pockets for the fasteners.

Ok good deal
This intake is new and I have the money to have it done RIGHT without it getting all messed up ok so know I have to find a competent Human who can perform said work maybe someone on the forum can do it for me they have prior experience etc.

I don't think the intake is thick enough to machine the angle and still hold it well. I seen a guy machine thick washers at a angle and it looked liked it worked well but tightening them up will probably be a pain

Ok good advice thank you intake is north of $500 so if it want work correctly then I need to leave it alone.

I would just get a piece of tubing 3/8 id and put it in a band saw and cut the angles

Offy used to have both patterns. Metal was made at the early angle and was spot faced to use socket head cap screws for 66 up heads. If you want to use on early heads just use a washer to bridge the spot face. Does the intake have spot faced holes?

I want to use intake on new modern alum LA cyl heads.

If the intake bolt surface is not spot faced, you could do that. Try calling Offenhouser and ask if they can do that for you. I'll try to get a picture of what I'm talking about.

Is that what you are looking to buy? That is what I am talking about. I thought of something else. If it truly is a 64/65 273 intake, It would have the small 273/318 intake ports. I'm not sure why you would want to use it with Large 340/360 intake ports...

That is one of the best intakes, back in the day. There were published mods for Super Stock to get the fuel distribution right at high rpm.

Yes - I saw that all modifications pertained to a Thermoquad and not a 4150 ###
I just wanted to gobble up a 2x4 set up for the future offy made the 2x4 in a medium riser also but they dont cast them anymore so I guess I will just use the Port O Flow and be content.

getting the hole to work is the easy part - the bolts are at a different angle. In addition to enlarging the holes you need washers cut to correct the seating angle of the bolt on the manifold. It's not too difficult if you have a good machine shop - take a rod the outside size of the washer you want, have them bore a hole through it the size for a 3/8 bolt and then have them cut thick washers off the rod that provide the correction angle. This is what a friend did to install a rare Edelbrock D-64 dual plane, inline dual quad manifold on a 318. God is it fun when the other 6 bbls kick in!
