lets say, just a hypothetical, that i know this truck (i dont) and its a POS (and it is NOT a engine swap assembly, not with that truck pan, it aint)

[FOR SALE] - 318 engine swap assembly. Edelbrock to oil pan, 727 trans located in San Jose, Ca. $500

could i start a thread in the mopars section, calling out the seller?
can i comment on it that way?

or are for sale adds completely off limits?

what if a someone with the screen name of "justin faggot" came online, and posted a for sale add, can i post an add in the main forum telling people this name sounds familiar and not to deal with him?
Just contact a moderator through a pm or if it is a obvious issue you can report the post.

I bought a thread just like this one last week for only $1.

I kind of new here, but what does the triangle shape button with exclamation mark inside, with the word "Report" next to it do? Is this not a way for the Staff Members & Moderators know there may be a problem with a thread, post....can I alert you (ALL) by @allstaffmmbers or @Moderators ?

It doesn't do anything. Just a cautionary symbol. It takes you to the same place as the word "report" does.

It's a Report button, just like it says. It alerts Staff Members to a problem with a post or thread.

You must be new here
There was a scammer on here a while ago, named Justin figget (do a search on him if you want)
He came on under several names selling parts without shipping them
So my point was, what if someone comes on whom we are pretty sure is a scammer

Factual comments are needed here.

So people will learn the next time.
And dont waste time of persons actually trying to help someone out

Getting back to the thread here folks...… I know what the mods and the owner said, but what do the members want? And what about the choice, allow or disallow comments by the OP?

My first guess, the members want to make comments.......................

My second guess, it will never happen. We don't have time to be chasing every comment in every ad to see what it is about. (although we pretty well have to!) The rule has more than one purpose.

Most, not all but most, comments in sale threads are not necessary. Many are like "those are a piece of garbage and I used this instead" or "I had one like that only it was green. Good luck with the sale" just to name a few. Yes like you mentioned in your original post, there can be some good information that may come out of comments but it is really tough to be judge and jury on what stays and what goes. This site and Joey's other sites are filled with information and I bet whatever is said in a sale thread has been discussed in a dozen or more other threads. Just use the search function. Something else you need to know, we moderators are pretty passionate about our jobs. We want the best for the site, the hobby, and it's members. We don't get paid but we spend dozens of hours a week (each of us) to make sure this place runs smoothly. We do it for your best interest. Joey has a few simple rules to follow for sellers and buyers. The ads are free and they reach a select group of like minded members and are a very sucessful part of the FABO community. We simply ask that you all just follow those simple rules to keep this place the best on the internet.

Like when somebody offers a 340 crankshaft for 400 bucks. Seriously? Put a little more with it and get a new forged crank. Or then you see somebody buy something for a good deal and a week later put a for sale ad up for the same part for three times the cost. It's tough not to comment on some things. I get it though. If we allowed comments, I would be like "You want 500 buck for that POS?"

THAT is why comments are not allowed right there. I think it's actually best left a lone.
Oh, come on new Rusty, ur a big boy. Kim

Let me be clear -- just so people understand. I have ZERO intention of allowing comments in ads.

Really?....You're still questioning your original post ?? I can't understand pursuing this

The way it is now is fair for everyone IMO...:usflag: :canada: :confederateflag:

Some members want to -- but people should trust me when I say, it would be a disaster. Why? Because if we were to allow comments, it would be ALL comments. So that would include the "that's garbage" or "I will sell that same part for half the price". Once those comments start what you'll get is less people willing to sell parts because they don't want the aggravation. Then there will be less parts available here for everyone restoring their cars. I can't see how thats good for the members in general or the site.

Don't take this wrong, but I can't put enough emphasis on it. I will not, under any circumstances, change the rules to allow free commentary in for sale ads. PERIOD. On this issue, I believe strongly that I know what is best for the site, and open commentary isn't it. So pushing the issue will be fruitless.

Further, I have a simple question... Why is this so important to anyone? That one I have never understood. Why is it important to you to be able to comment on a for sale ad? Relevant questions about something your thinking about buying I understand, but why is it so important, for example, that you tell someone how nice the car they are trying to sell is?

This is a dead horse. The rule is no comments. Period. It's tough sometimes not to, but that's how it is. This thread is done it should be closed. The rules are the rules.

If there's a car you like in a for sale ad-----

hit the "like" button.
