It’s about balance. Gear ratio coupled with tire size for what your intended purpose is. To that end....
I have found a stock tire A body and 3.23 gears are a good performer. The same goes for 3.55’s though a stock tire tends to have the engine buzzing a tad higher than I like so a slightly larger tire is used.
With this kind of set up, the cam size is on the small side. 224@050 is about as big as I’d go. 230@050 acceptable. Though at this duration, I’d like at least 3.91’s and a min. of a 26 inch diameter tire.
If your building a street stripper, give it the big cam, converter and gears, then proceed to rip up the streets.
