265 hemi straight six

-
Nope. Some Hemi-6 blocks, not all of them, will accept an A/LA-pattern bellhousing, because the A904LA Torqueflite was used in 6-cylinder Valiant VIPs, instead of the crude BW35 used in less-ritzy Valiants. But TTBOMK there aren't any Hemi-6 blocks that will accept a Slant-6 bellhousing.
Yep, agreed, But as I said "Some" as in the Distant past I'd mated up a Torque flight to a Hemi 6. Maybe No Slant bellhousings bolted up in Australia, but in NZ the late Slants did, just before the new 245 was released ( Something to do with a delay in Component supply )...Go Ask a Brazilian too , as an aside. AU wasn't the center of the world when it came to /6's, Hemi 6's & various trans & bell housing.
Cheers Digger.

When the Hemi 6 was launched in Australia, Chrysler advertised the new Hemi-Spherical head as the main feature of the new engine design as it was the easiest way to describe the engine as Australians new of the power of the US Hemi V8. It was just a marketing ploy & it worked. The engines were extremely powerful compared to what was available at the time. The track versions were real performers. a std 265 was no way as quick as a std 340 & was never meant to be.I had both back in the day & my right foot still remembers both of them quit well. That is why I'm spending a small fortune rebuilding a modified 340 6pack at the moment instead of a 265, I want the best of both worlds. You guys seam to be tearing your selves apart over a 40 year old advertising ploy from smooth a Chrysler marketing team. As Slant 6 Dan said Blah Blah Blah.

Well, to further your "Blah blah blah " Not looking through revisionist glasses: I'm not fizzing at the bum, to put a misconception to bed, there were VERY FEW Mopar Hemis in Australia of any kind & those that were ,were soon snapped up for fledgling drag racing, boats & some speedway/circuit. Almost ALL of your mid-late '50s Finned molars were Poly engines in lowley Plymouth Savoy's, those that weren't Flathead 6's ! ( a jewel of a series of engines) 2/ Do you also realise your local market 340's. Even in Chargers, had the Pedestrian 318ci Cam ,As it was at the height of the "Supercar scare" & politicians leaned on Big 3 to cut out the 145+mph top speeds, Caused GMH to shelf the Holden hurricane too, with all the scare mongering.

The "Hemi Head" was NO more an advertising ploy that Ford Falcon's XD " Alloy Head ".
As a Published writer I've driven plenty of both too & the accelerometer doesn't lie.

It's great to speak to someone that was there at the time.I did have 265 4 speed Charger, as well as an E38 4 speed Charger please don't tell me that they didn't build them as there were only a couple ever built. I also had a std. 770 318 charger that car was later fitted with a 68 Barracuda Formula S 340 engine with a 4 speed .That 340 was quickest car that I drove at the time, I also had an '70 R/T Challenger at that time as well & that wasn't far behind the Charger. AHHHHH the memories, fast cars going by just like life. I love the photo of HT Monaro

Good Reply : there's a 'Big Tank' R/T Charger over here. Pretty sure its been here from new...( apparently ine of about 3 to certain spec built - you'll know the midel) .
I'll post a couple of Pics of the Prices of Chargers for sale here now.

Thanks about the Monaro, that Pic slipped in ! (I was looking at gallery in another tab & must a glitches. ) its off the Sydney production line from the batch of bodies done for the '69 Bathurst 350's Colin Bond etc, Had it 35 years now, bought when you could afford them - its matching numbers..
Hang around for those charger pics.
The 318 770's were nice cars with their Auto floor shift consoles. The main release 255/265's here were the 770's with higher spec interiors std. Dad was the "Go to" guy for Todd motors who did them in the '70's with his (& other colleagues) business I grew up in trouble shooting wuerd ignition etc noise problems: ( like the voltage regulator static on the radio from the instrument panel, for 1 model Valiant) Fun thing was I got to see behind scenes delevopment, alterations , etc STILL remember that 1ST 3 Weber Valiant Coming in & its 800-900rpm odd idle: you had to hear it with the bonnet up.
Did you know Todd Motors NZ used to fit a Pacer (about 213hp think Cam) Std in the "Std" 203hp 265's ?? Was in the Parts rack dept at the assembly plant when a bunch if Factory cams can in after being measured at a well known Can grinders ( RIP Ron Rutherford) Chrysler NZ wanted to "Keep the Edge" on the Valiant Success after/during its VF etc sedan success in The Benson & Hedges supported Circuit Series at the time.
Got any Photos of your Valiants ?.
Cheers T.

Hi Rev Trev,I still have some photo's of the Aussie 770 Charger & 70 Challenger somewhere. They were both Black on Black, a rare combination at the time.

Hmmmm it glitchef & obviously posted previous unedited wording.
The Red Charger is a '76 770 NZ new 265ci 4 Speed (Rare) asking $44,950NZ ,(its in Town, if you need an Agent to buy :) )
The other is the last if VH , a '73 265ci Auto , Same $45K asking - if the motors were such digs how's it gone 203,000 miles ,g the horrible bw35 ?done at 130,000 ??.
Posted the Last if Pics + the Blurb for the Caramel one.
Thought someone may appreciate it ( hate to think the MBs soaked up)
Cheers again.
Trev.
PS I STILL remember the box lots of various model Radio delete plates at work, now going for silly money on EBay AU & USA.

PPS .. Just saw your inbound: Black on black WAS uncommon - although remember black upholstery was all the rage in AU in the 70's ? Wasn't the Bullitt Charger Black on Black ??
Post some of those photos if your game.
Cheers again.Trev.

It's the labour day weekend here in Victoria & I'm of to Geelong to the Chryslers By The Bay Show. it's about 350 + Mopars ,lots of Hemi 6 packs on display (aussie). These are now being out numbered by American Muscle Mopars.

That's what I want. Id rather have one that's orig unmolested. There's only one guy I trust to build my engines.... he is the best.
Too bad Mopar never made them like that. A cross flow head would be a plus.

I had an ex police VJ charger 265 that was six months old and 44thousand ks when I bought it. It replaced my 1964 valiant with slant six that had exctractors and 2 barrel but was about 3 times faster and used half the amount of fuel. It was a E36 motor 265s as the standard 265 engine was designated E33. It was said to produce 218 hp as the E36 was 205 HP. I put a 600 holley and pacer 4 barrel manifold and exctractors on it and it instally reved to six thousand five hudred revs and did 14.7 qtr mile runs with standard exhaust. I did not know why it was so quick until many years later but the E49 was finished and they had plenty of parts left over so they put a police only engine package together for about six months which consisted of special valves and springs, baffled sump, six pack rods and crankshaft and a special camshaft that let it rev to the moon and back with thirty plus mpg on a run. Yes the hemi six is prone to a few problems, we call them rattlies and they are prone to oil pump drive on the camshaft stripping but there are a few tuners that have solved those problems with a few modifications like the fellow that runs a chrysler centura with a turbo hemi six that runs mid sixes in the quarter and another fellow has just done a billet forged stroker crank for them and also another company that does alloy heads for them. A guy races a pacer in our old nostalger series and it makes around five hundred and fifty HP running against camaros and 351 mustangs and does well. I noticed someone saying our police had 340 chargers, no this is not correct as they had 265 auto chargers with 727 torqueflight boxes in them and 318 V8s yes the 265 was quicker that the 318 and also some 360 (2barrel) chargers that were a weapon. We had 340 Se chargers and a mate had one . Single exhaust from the factory but he just put twin two inch exhaust on it and it would run 14.4 qtr mile all day long, same as a E49 but a lot quicker than our phase three 351 clevo falcon. We were all pressed for a 340 4 speed R/T bathurst charger untill a dumshit motoring writer put a front page add on the newspaper stating that any pimply face apprentice could buy a one hundred and fifty mph super car and kill himself , so the government made the big three stop all there supercars so the 340 V8 project was shelved and all R/Ts also stopped. Our 340 chargers were mostly all 10.5 to one big valve engines untill the end and they were the cast crank low comp small valve 340s in the end.

I want to see pics of a slant 6 hemi head . The ones in the black car are no more hemi than my wedge is !
I didn`t read all the posts, but never have seen a real hemi / 6 !
