265 hemi straight six

I had an ex police VJ charger 265 that was six months old and 44thousand ks when I bought it. It replaced my 1964 valiant with slant six that had exctractors and 2 barrel but was about 3 times faster and used half the amount of fuel. It was a E36 motor 265s as the standard 265 engine was designated E33. It was said to produce 218 hp as the E36 was 205 HP. I put a 600 holley and pacer 4 barrel manifold and exctractors on it and it instally reved to six thousand five hudred revs and did 14.7 qtr mile runs with standard exhaust. I did not know why it was so quick until many years later but the E49 was finished and they had plenty of parts left over so they put a police only engine package together for about six months which consisted of special valves and springs, baffled sump, six pack rods and crankshaft and a special camshaft that let it rev to the moon and back with thirty plus mpg on a run. Yes the hemi six is prone to a few problems, we call them rattlies and they are prone to oil pump drive on the camshaft stripping but there are a few tuners that have solved those problems with a few modifications like the fellow that runs a chrysler centura with a turbo hemi six that runs mid sixes in the quarter and another fellow has just done a billet forged stroker crank for them and also another company that does alloy heads for them. A guy races a pacer in our old nostalger series and it makes around five hundred and fifty HP running against camaros and 351 mustangs and does well. I noticed someone saying our police had 340 chargers, no this is not correct as they had 265 auto chargers with 727 torqueflight boxes in them and 318 V8s yes the 265 was quicker that the 318 and also some 360 (2barrel) chargers that were a weapon. We had 340 Se chargers and a mate had one . Single exhaust from the factory but he just put twin two inch exhaust on it and it would run 14.4 qtr mile all day long, same as a E49 but a lot quicker than our phase three 351 clevo falcon. We were all pressed for a 340 4 speed R/T bathurst charger untill a dumshit motoring writer put a front page add on the newspaper stating that any pimply face apprentice could buy a one hundred and fifty mph super car and kill himself , so the government made the big three stop all there supercars so the 340 V8 project was shelved and all R/Ts also stopped. Our 340 chargers were mostly all 10.5 to one big valve engines untill the end and they were the cast crank low comp small valve 340s in the end.
