Looking to make a swap to big bolt rear in my 68 barracuda. What rear do I look for??? There are still plenty of donor cars around here in Idaho. How easy is the swap?? Bolt in????

large bolt abody 7 1/4 or 8 1/4 from a 73-up abody.

or my preference.. an abody 8 '3/4 housing and put large bolt axles and brakes in it..

There are many different options, it depends on your intended use, what gear ratio you want, if you want a sure grip or some other kind of limited slip, or f you want rear discs etc.

Other than large bolt pattern what are your requirements?

She just s just a driver. I have been out of my racing days for awhile w her. Had had the car since 82 in high school. Really have never really liked the skinny tires in the rear. I have some 15x8inch 5x4.5 slotted mags that perfectly match the ones that are on the front. So really just for looks. I have an LS6 in my z28 for racing

As said before an 8 1/4 from a 73 and later A body or even an F body. It can be had for around $200 sometimes with a posi and if you get the spring plates and driveshaft from the donor car, it's a bolt in swap. An 8 1'4 will stand up to the healthiest of stock motors.

Ok; just for looks , have you considered the much cheaper option of custom backspace wheels.

F-body rears will have a slightly wider track, and some come with the iso clamps, both of which require extra work to install.

Just for looks also means you can run adapters . But those also push the wheels out ~1 inch per side, so wide wheels will usually stick past the body line, usually requiring suspension mods to work..... and may not be legal to run, where you live.

If you have a slanty rear end in that 68, it will have the small tubes and 9inch brakes and small leafsprings. Whereas the big bolt-pattern rear will most likely have 3" tubes and 10 inch brakes, and wider springs. The point is you will need to swap everything between the spring mounts over, and probably re-engineer the brake bias.

And finally, the factory rear tubs on a 68 Barracuda will accept
275s on a 15x8.5 standard backspace wheel;with no narrowing, and no custom offset; or
295s on 15x10 wheels with the springs moved over just a lil. To pull this off will require custom offset wheels; or a narrowed rear end to run a 15x10 standard 4.5" backspace wheel. The 10s with 4.5bs wheels are a deepdish, and look really nice tucked in there.

Why not just redrill the axles for the 4.5 bolt pattern
