hey guys
long story short, my sister is coming over with her kids for a few weeks, and she wants to rent an RV for a week or so
i was trolling C/L and came across a 94 fleetwood 21 footer RV for 1200 bucks
i figured it might be cheaper to buy it, use it and flip it but i know NOTHING about RVs, so ...good idea?

what should i look for , if i go check it out?

thanks guys

Besides the brakes and drive train check everything. Refrig, oven, heater, waterlines, generator if it has one, really check the water lines and electrical wiring for damage.

The skylights if it has them, roof leaks, soft spots in the floor especially around the sink(s) and shower and toilet areas. Check the black and grey storage tanks for cracks and fresh water tank and pump. People have slept and eat and what ever else in these, so cleanliness is a big factor....If you are going to park this on your property you will have to think about the waste water, black and grey.

I bought a used pull behind years ago in Illinois pulled it to Casa Grande Az. The manufacture had nailed thru the 120 wiring years earlier when building it. The trip jiggled it around to where it shorted out inbetween the paneling and the outside metal one night. My buddy and I smelled it and put it out but what a pain to put it out inside the wall.
I highly recommend having a couple fire extinguishers on board.

buy a mid 70's dodge motor home. Let her live in it, and when she's done, you'll have a 440 :D

Run, only one worst investment, a boat. Rent her a nice late model RV so she will enjoy her stay, then return it. There are a lot of nice even privately owned RV's out there for rent.

Unless you have a desire to do some mohoming, after the family is gone, I recommend the rent and run scenario.

If you have ideas of using it personally, after the family's visit, - buy as big as you can.

While shopping around, let your nose be your guide in regards to mold, rot on the inside.
Aforementioned items, especially the ROOF, need to be professionally inspected before purchase.

Owned both land and sea yachts, found it very, very educationl, and rewarding.

Do you have the listing so we can see what it looks like?
Otherwise all the information given here I got to agree with wholeheartedly. Besides mechanical problems, water leaks are the worst. Mold, yuck.

thanks guys, here is the listing
i called her, left a message and she texted me said she would email me some pics
the listing is from MI, the phone number from PA and she claims to be in the VA national guard...sounds a bit fishy?

94 Fleetwood Motorhome fwd New Cabin & Engine Air Filters.

(i'll see what a rental costs, really the only reason i considered buying this one is because it seemed like a good deal...perhaps too good to be true)

The "New Cabin & Engine Air Filters" are worth the asking price alone!

That vehicle is worth more than 1,500. If it Sounds too good to be true it usually is.
How far away from the vehicle are you?

that was what caught my search query (i was looking for some property with a cabin on it)

at any rate, im pulling the plug on this one, im not buying anything i cant see myself

here is the last email she send me

Hi again,
As I told you in my first e-mail, I’m in the army and right now I am located at a military base. The rv is here with me.We are training hard and getting ready for deployment.
Before leaving, I prearranged a deal with eBay Motors, so my presence isn't necessary. The delivery process will be managed by me. I think I can have it there at your home address within 2-3 working days. You will have 5 days to test and inspect the vehicle prior to making any purchase. During the 5 days testing period I will not be getting any money.
I need to know if you are interested so I can ask eBay to send you the details regarding this deal.
If you are interested, please reply with your contact info for eBay (full name, shipping address and phone number), so we can get the ball rolling. I will send your info to eBay and they will contact you and send you everything there is to know about how to close the transaction.

well, its listed on my local craigslist BUT she just now disclosed it is located wherever she is stationed in VA...its about 750 miles to the border

Personally I would tell her thank you. But no thank you.

It would be interesting to hear what she had to say about the title. I'll bet eBay has it or her credit union has the title and she can't get it until she pays It Off.

Get the ebay listing, ebay has a customer protection policy set up

sounds like a scam to me
I had a girl that was trying to sell a 96 ram that was very nice and was in the army and going to sell it before deployment was listed in my town but when I talked to here in emails she said it was in Colorado , that's 800 miles away from me , said the same crap that she sent you

run run run ....

Anyone in Holland Pa that could take a look at it?

Listing has been flagged for removal.Red Alert. I've done a lot of RV'ing. Those old motorhome's usually are worn out pieces of crap shined up to look good. She and You will be much happier and further ahead going the rental bit.
