72 duster Build progress

-
Wow , Just wanted to say , I am brand new today to this site and man am I glad I joined . I have wanted to own a Mopar all my life , but never could afford one . I just picked this sweet car up about a week ago , joined this group , found your thread , and man I gotta tell you I am blown away with the amount of documentation and the time you have spent on this car . This is my very first Mopar , so I don't really know a lot about these cars , The car is absolutely beautiful in everyway . The only thing I would like to do is a rear end swap . As I would like to use the car for trips to Gatlinburg Tennessee . Any help from xMoparx would be greatly appreciated . as I am not a trader and WILL be keeping this car for a really long time .

Hope to hear from you soon
Ken

AWESOME!. I am glad to hear that someone ended up with it that will keep it and appreciate all of the hard work that I put into it over the years!.

If you have any questions about it feel free to PM me and I will tell you whatever you need to know. Or, you can use this thread for reference as I documented the build pretty thoroughly . I still have thousands of pictures set aside from the build from start to finish aswell.

I just visited Gatlinburg, TN earlier in the year. Beautiful area!. And yes I don't blame you for wanting to swap the rear end. The 4.56 in it was a very tall gear and not practical. I sold it before I was able to swap out the gears. I would deffinetly only swap the gears in it and not the entire rear end because the rear end itself has all of the best of the best internals in it!.

So glad to hear that someone got it that will enjoy it and keep it. If you do anything to the Duster please feel free to update this thread with your progress!, I think it would be awesome if the "72 Duster build progress" thread could continue on.

Feel free to message me when you get the chance.

Years later and I still miss the Duster. Sad to see that it exchanged hands a couple more times since my last post. I don't know who has the Duster these days but I hope that they are treating it well and plan to keep it. Almost feels like raising a child and then watching them bounce around from foster home to foster home. BUT I decided to sell it regretfully so and it is out of my hands what the owners choose to do with it.

I know at the end of the Duster project I was burnt out on it and had said I didn't want to get into a full on resto like that again. But I really do miss having a project. I would love to build something but unfortunately the funds are to tight for the initial purchase of any kind of project. I hope I can find a good deal on something or by some miracle find someone willing to donate me a car that they don't have any plans for. That was the beauty of the Duster was that I got it for dirt cheap and every last bit of work that was done to it I did with my own 2 hands and a large percentage of the car I restored with elbow grease rather than replaced with cash.

Anyways, i just felt like stopping into the old thread and saying Hi to everyone and let you all know I am still around and miss the comradery here on fabo an I am hoping to be back in full swing here on the forum with another restoration as soon as the stars align for me to make something like that happen. My kids are getting older and my father is getting up there in age aswell and I would really like to get ahold of something I can work on with them and hang on to.

stay tuned everyone...stay tuned!

I am still on the hunt for a project. I have the itch for a restoration very bad lol. I don't car if it is rusty and barely a rolling chassis. SOMETHING that I can bring back to life!. If you know of anything, please let me know!

If you could become Dusterdude73.....let me know! Dig down into the cars for sale ads to see mine for sale. Long ways from you, but a super solid start to a project.

I just wanted to say thank you for this thread. I don't know how many times I have come back to it for inspiration on my own project. You did a great job and trust me, I know the burnt out feeling. ;)

Really happy to hear that after all these years that people such as yourself are still getting use from this thread!. I only hope that I can find another project and pick up where I left off!.

I know this isnt Duster related. But for those that followed the thread over the years for not only Duster stuff but just to see some of the work I do... I figured I would make a post for the first time in awhile that is related to the work I like to do. AND it is still MOPAR being it is related to my RAM. So I ordered a set of fender flares and decided to paint them body color to match my truck. A buddy of mine picked up a RAM and ordered a set of black headlights for his and I helped him change his headlights and for helping him he gave me his factory headlights. So I decided HECK, I may aswell make them body color to match also. So I prepped everything, 2 part black epoxy primed everything, based and cleared. Not to toot my own horn...BUT my paint work comes out better than most of the pro body shops near me and I did this without a booth/not exactly the cleanest environment and with a $20.00 Harbor freight spray gun. Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy seeing and update and seeing I am still tooling around with stuff. I have been trying to find another Mopar project because I have a serious itch to do another car. But the stars are just not aligning for me on that front. Hoping that I can make it happen sooner rather than later. And you better believe I will be back in full force when that day comes!

You can thank photobucket for shutting down for that!. I'm going to have to try and find a way to recover all of the pictures.

Well that's a bummer!
I don't know why exactly, But it appears that photo bucket is allowing photo's to be seen again!. Maybe folks can once again get use out of my old thread!. I wish I could find another project. When that day comes I will create a new thread and document it like I did the Duster all over again!

Can't wait for that day to come...loved lurking in your thread watching what all you were doing...I'm still tuned in

Im still doing little projects. Im doing stuff to my ram and im painting cars and stuff. But no ACTUAL big time projects of my own. Still working toward getting a house and once I make that a reality I am going to switch focus back to getting another old Mopar (unless of course I run across an awesome deal in which case GAME ON LOL). Here are some pictures of my buddies Charger I just finished doing some work on. I custom built this hood out of fiberglass (not so fun of a job lol) and painted it in matte black for an old school Mopar throw back. I am still doing stuff even though you guys may not hear from me like you use to!.

Hey everyone!, I am still around and still a Mopar head lol. I am looking to get back into another Mopar project, so if anyone knows of a good deal on something out there (preferably in Michigan) please let me know. Hope to soon be back in the swing of things and announcing another build thread for everyone to enjoy!

Hey everyone!, still around!, still a Mopar head!. Been a long time since I’ve been in the forum, forums seems to have went the wayside in recent years as social media has taken over ... miss the small town feel of a good forum that isn’t full of keyboard warrior know it all’s lol.

Just swung by the forum to check in and see some familiar faces, crazy thinking I came to this forum when I was around 20 and being in me of the “young guns”and here it is almost 15 years later .

Im still painting and still tinkering and restoring things!.

As for my current drivers/projects... my daily is a newer ram regular cab short bed hemi that I lifted and did a few other goodies too.
As for my project, I picked up a 53 f100 pickup with a flathead and a 3 in the tree. I’ve seriously toyed with the idea of dunking a hemi into it .

hope to hear from some folks I haven’t heard from in awhile and hope to see you have all been healthy and well!. Would love to find out where my old duster is currently aswell, would be nice to find out if the current owner is a member of the forum.

Hey @Dusterdude72! I have to tell you, this thread was a giant inspiration and motivater for my build. Glad to see you back around. The forums are still way better than any social media.

Wow, what a Time Machine this thread is for me . I’m still around, still working on my F100 from the last post I made, I’ve since upgraded my daily to a 21 5th gen Ram and love it. Sad to see the way things are headed for the auto industry and the death of the Hemi, home to see a resurgence one day so my kids generation can have as much fun with it as I have. I’d love to know what ever happened to my Duster and who the new owner might be. Anyone happen to of seen my old Duster around by chance?.
