Adjusting wheel

Hi All
My 74 swinger has sat for a long time, too long
and the left rear drum locked up... yes I guess I set the brake..
anyway after getting it off, (no easy task). I cleaned everything, wire wheeled the
drum and painted them with ceramic silver. (had a can on hand)
but what is interesting, is that there are 2 placer's in the backing plate for
adjusting the star wheel.. Only trouble is that the star wheel sits between both
these are original parts. I've not seen this on any of my other cars over the years
so does anyone have an explanation for this?
Also FYI if your like me and "Want" to buy American. a company
named Milton makes valves stems here in the US..
from my reading there are only 2 sizes for the diameter the most common is
a .453. The reason I found this out is that the Valve stems that were used when
I had new chromed reversed wheels installed they used new valve stems, that have
since turned to dust... And the car has been in my garage for nearly 3 years.
and only had about 1K miles on the wheels..
I believe in buying American if I can, even if it costs me a few cents more..
BTW, the 5 valve stems from Milton cost me $7.77. including shipping...
One last item, if you think you need to stems, you can replace them yourself
by deflating the tire, use a long thin rod with a ( hook ) at the end and
place it inside the hole along side the stem, twist so the hook connects to the hole
in the stem, then pull up. Installing a new stem is a little harder and the use
of a $7 dollar tool is needed... it goes on the threads of the valve stem, then you
shove the valve stem into the hole, and pull up.. it will seat itself...
there is a few You Tube videos you can watch
