1978 400 from a Ram charger, 4 speed, steel crank and no VIN. 8t400 and 3 21 on deck surface, molding date 12 2 77. The vin pad is bare, Is the vin somewhere else?

This engine has never been apart, till now, OEM rod bearings dated 1977 , .001's on journal 1-2 throw, hence the "Maltese cross" on the pad. Shim steel head gaskets. Where it has been, it's been there for 40+ years.

Warranty block would have had a blue tag on a centered rivet/ bolt, but it could be long gone. Blank pad would tell me it was motor without a home.

I have two 318 warranty blocks, a 1967/68 and a 1976.

The 67/68 has the replacement assembly tag, the 76 does not, but has a blank pan rail.

I don't see any evidence on the 76, of ever having a tag riveted to the block.

Perhaps they stopped using the tags at some point.

Sometimes the VIN pad is blank.
I'm guessing this is the case, since there is the "8 T 400" and the 3 21 on the deck pad. Some specific to the vehicle info and nothing more. Must have been coffee break or shift change.
