Craigslist folks have expanded.

I tried. I really did. I even kept it simple, using simple terminology, breaking it down into something I thought everyone coI'll understand... even using voltage terms that simplify...

What can you do?

Sorry to have to tell you but it appears you are incorrect here

The seller seems to be saying the machine is 230V 3 phase. If that is true (AND IT COULD BE) then you cannot run it off 230 single phase without a phase converter.

"Normal" household 230 is NOT "2 phase." It is in fact single phase

Around here, (Spokane area) there are areas supplied either by 208 or 230 3 phase. 230 3 phase can provide 120V/ 230 v single phase or 3 phase, and 208 3 phase can provide 208 single phase or 120V single phase.

The difference is that 208 is delta wound and 230 is delta/ center tapped IE one transformer is center tapped to give two 120V outputs with a center neutral.

Not all 460 is 3 phase has to be drawn in 3 phase, either. I once worked on some computer room AC units that were 460 3 phase, but they had 460 down to 24V control transformers for the internal controls, and those were single phase, in other words pulled off 2 legs of the 460
