Since my Rallye Dash oil pressure gauge works sometimes I figured I would install a T connector and put a mechanical gauge in and leave the factory gauge hooked up. I got everything installed and the mechanical gauge works great. The factory oil pressure sending unit now interferes with the vacuum advance and the timing cannot be adjusted anymore by rotating the distributor clockwise. I haven't checked the timing yet but I'm not optimistic the timing is set correctly. Should I bag the T connector and just leave the new mechanical gauge in place? I'm sure I'm not the only person that has had this problem. What would you do?

Without a photo hard to say. Maybe an el in there to "tilt" the sender a bit

Bag the T connector and just go with the mechanical gauge....

a: hope you upgraded the oil line to something more than the plastic tube most of those come with.
b: if you did a better line, make or have made a short line (6") and move "T" away from the dist

If you have room you may be able to make room by re-orienting the distributor away from the oil fitting. If you remove the distributor, move the oil pump driven over one tooth and reinsert the distributor so the vacuum advance is moved away from the oil fitting.

We left rally gauge in dash but unhooked. Ran the plastic line and adapter to a set of triple gauges. Zero issues. If the plastic breaks I got copper. Plastic in for 7 years now. Sorry no pic but mounted triple gauge set right below ac vents. Fit perfect. Factory cluster intact.

I did the same thing adding a mechanical gauge. I left the original sender hooked up. It was difficult to get it arranged , but it can be done. I will see if I can get a picture, but it is pretty crowded back there.

A pic or two would be great......Your telling me about being cramped for space......How the hell do people put big blocks in Dusters. There seems to me no room with a 340 and the 4 speed clutch hardware. Thanks

Wait , a sender and oil line ?? I have a mechanical oil gauge under the hood mounted on the firewall, and one in the dash , both copper lined , no sending units !!

Couldn’t get a photo of my factory sender and aftermarket gauge set up, too much stuff in the way. I drew a picture of what I did. I kept the pipe nipples pretty short to conserve space. My setup moves the large aftermarket sensor away from the distributor. You could use a 90 and a short nipple in place of the street ell

Thanks a lot for the drawing. I ended up removing the T today and just installing the aftermarket mechanical gauge hardware. Set the timing without any issues. I will get the parts needed to emulate your setup and do it all over again at some point. Thanks again.

The angle of your connection looks more like a V. With the one I have the part you used to connect the oil sender is below the intake and blocks me from screwing in the sender to it.
