I tried. I really did. I even kept it simple, using simple terminology, breaking it down into something I thought everyone coI'll understand... even using voltage terms that simplify...

What can you do?

I don't know which side of the argument you're taking, but 230V can be either single phase or 3-phase. You'd need to look at the machine/motor specs to see what is required.

Edit... It just occurred to me you're poking fun at the people arguing over that point. Never mind, and yeah that's why I don't bother trying to sell stuff on ebay anymore.

......................

And 480 can be single or 3 phase
The motor may also be dual voltage

Sorry to have to tell you but it appears you are incorrect here

The seller seems to be saying the machine is 230V 3 phase. If that is true (AND IT COULD BE) then you cannot run it off 230 single phase without a phase converter.

"Normal" household 230 is NOT "2 phase." It is in fact single phase

Around here, (Spokane area) there are areas supplied either by 208 or 230 3 phase. 230 3 phase can provide 120V/ 230 v single phase or 3 phase, and 208 3 phase can provide 208 single phase or 120V single phase.

The difference is that 208 is delta wound and 230 is delta/ center tapped IE one transformer is center tapped to give two 120V outputs with a center neutral.

Not all 460 is 3 phase has to be drawn in 3 phase, either. I once worked on some computer room AC units that were 460 3 phase, but they had 460 down to 24V control transformers for the internal controls, and those were single phase, in other words pulled off 2 legs of the 460

This is 4 wire delta or center tapped delta

The so called "wild leg" is not used for 120V service, it runs variously somewhere around 180V to neutral. The wild leg can be used with either of the other two legs in some cases for 230V single phase equipment, and obviously all 3 for 3 phase 230

For 120V singe phase, phase A or C to the center tap (neutral) gives you separate feeds of 120V just like your household power. It is my belief that this lashup started because some industrial outfits may have started with one big single phase transformer, and later wanted 3 phase, so all th epower co. did was add the other two for the other two phases

This is 208 Y (wye)

This setup supplies 3 individual 120V single phase feeds to the neutral. The disadvantage is that some equipment (mostly older) will not properly operate on only 208 having been made for 230. So this is 208 3 phase, or you can pull off 208 single phase

I posted a Dana 60 HD rear end for sale listing it had an open diff and clear pictures showing it had drum brakes. Had multiple requests asking if it was limited slip and if it had disc brakes. Read the post. People are just scary anymore!

I don't bother advertising anything.
When I bought a new truck a few months ago, I just bought it straight out, and did not trade my jeep because a couple of guys at work said they would like to have it.
Well the guys at work backed out when it came down to it, so I just gave it to my daughter.
I don't want to deal with the public.

Tell ya guys.......in spite of the nonsense and dummies and flakes, I've gotten a lot of stuff off CL and sold a few things. PhacePlhant sucks, their "search" function sucks worse, and I detest the leftist liberal lying retard Zuckerfake

I don’t think someone who is trying to sell something really cares about the nuances of what the power is. They have decided it doesn’t work for them and just want to sell it.

If you want it, buy it.

Otherwise, your comments about their opinion of why it doesn’t work for them falls on deaf ears.

They aren’t interested in having their opinion changed nor are looking for input about whether their interpretation is correct.

In their mind, it is for sale...period.

Stop! I already slept through AC/DC Machine Theory in college...don't remind me ;-)
