I feel like an idiot for asking this, but my brain just cannot grasp this. I’m swapping from a column shifter to a console floor shifter, stock set up except the shifter which is a new PG Classics clone of the original Mopar shifters. The tranny is out of the car as I’m also swapping the torque converter and replacing a few seals. The shifter, which looks identical to every stock floor shifter I’ve seen, only has five positions to move through while the tranny feels as though it has six positions, which makes sense: Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive, Second, First; so six positions makes sense. When I connect all of the shifter rods and shifter to the tranny it seems as though I’m only moving through five positions, which is what the shifter has. What am I missing? Can someone with more common sense explain this to me as I’m sure this is a simple answer. Thank you.

Yes, I’m pushing down the button for each shift, including into Park, but I still only get five different positions of movement on the shifter. I have the entire shift assembly mocked up on the tranny so I could figure out how it all went together and worked.

Counting first position its in when you start?
It would have 5 detent positions.
Disconnect cable, manually shift trans to park. Then move shifter to 1st and manually move trans to 1st. Shifter and cable should line up at both ends. If not,you arent crazy.

Linkage not properly adjusted, play in entire system, wrong linkage pieces, wrong transmission lever. Or the button is not actually releasing. Can you tell that it is actually going into park?

One thing you could do is go underneath at each end of the travel......P and 1, and pull the link out and then see if the lever moves further.

Any chance the shaft is loose on the transmission lever, or worse, that the "rooster comb" in the transmission is loose on the shaft?

Thanks, Inertia. That seems like the most reasonable answer. The tranny worked perfect, with a column shift, prior to pulling it for the console shifter install and converter swap. The shifter appears to be a perfect replica of a stock one and the gate for “Drive” is a much longer one than the other gates/positions on the shifter, which made me think it might be the same gate for Neutral. Thanks to everyone for their help!
