I just put my steering wheel on my 68 Valiant, It has a manual column out of a 68 barracuda and a black pebble grain sport wheel. I have a 5/16 gap between the back of the wheel and the column sleeve. It seems like to large of gap. The nut is tight and only has 1 thread beyond the nut. It has the new reproduction aluminum nut and washer FYI. Can anyone advise me as to what the issue might be.
Thanks

What adapter did you use? Did it have a sleeve that acts as a spacer that goes over the steering shaft and acts as a stop for the adapter?

Its the same adapter used on the wood grain wheel. I'm not sure what sleeve you are talking about.

Can you post up some pictures? I think that would go a long way in figuring out what's going on here.

I had to put a thick washer under my nut because it was bottoming out before it pushed the wheel tight.

I will try after work today, I have so many things going on right now.
Thank you much!

Try tapping the center of the wheel in to see if it will go further

I will try that after work today. Since this is my first mopar restoration it is so nice to have all you folks to ask for your input before making a stupid mistake. I was leary about that because i had a heck of a time getting the steering column collar tabs to bite and stay in place.
Thank you!
