hi
I am putting a 440 in my 68 barracuda . I have the 383 k member. I also have the 383 motor mounts . Do I need to modify the driver mount as the m code A body’s used ?

I put a 69 440+6 in my 383-s Barracuda using the 383 mounts. My 440 had the bosses on the engine block which I drilled and tapped. It worked for me for 25 years. Rod

I was going to put a 440 in a 68 barracuda I once had, it had a 383 and mount's, unfortunately the 440 block I had did not have the bosses that could be drilled and tapped, I was in search of a 440 with the bosses but ended up trading the project before I found one.

When I had 2" CPPA headers on the engine, I had to shim the engine up approx 1/4". The air cleaner just barely touched the bracing of the hood when the engine rocked. After I changed to Schumacher headers, I was able to lower the engine down the 1/4" and it cleared, so it is very close, but it fits. If you look in the picture, you can see a little spot on the air cleaner near the front, that is where it touched. Rod

I sold the 383-s I had for 25 years to build my dream 71 Barracuda.

It's amazing how those oval air cleaners fit the A body's, they are actually no taller than the unsilenced air cleaners. I run the 440 base on mine and have about 1 inch of clearance from the hood bracing, measured using the play dough test. My intake is a torker 340 and about the same height or maybe a little taller than the six pack.

I believe Schumacher makes a 440 mount that mounts into the oil pump area on the block and you would not need the bosses on the front of the block. It is not in the catalog but when I talked to them at Chryslers at Carlise a couple years ago they did confirm they do make that mount.

Does that fit under the stock hood?
FWIW, The six packs do go with little room to spare from the hood bottom. The cleaner base can be a little closer than you want to a 2 speed wiper motor too.

Yes, the air cleaner rests up against the two speed motor but is workable with no modifications, at least in my car.

I don’t have the bosses for the 383 mount , I am making a 440 mount , have to flatten the 383 mount , not easy , lol

When I very first put my 440 in, someone gave me a mount that went from the front ears of the block and then went up to the water pump. It was big and ugly, but worked until I found an original mount. Rod
