also cleaning up the engine bay a little. battery is going in the trunk. main reason is i just like it that way. the area under the battery tray was not as bad as i thought it was going to be, but still had some surface rust. don't remember where, but came across Automotive Touch Up paint, and figured it was worth trying on the engine compartment. cleaned up the rust with a wire wheel, primed it and shot this over the top. i'll have to see how close the color is in the day light, but for touching up the engine bay, this worked awesome.

hoping to get the water pump sealed up and the radiator in tomorrow, need to get this back on the road soon :steering:
 
Really glad to see this car again. Darter6 bought it from me. It was on the back burner for me since I had a lot going on at the time. I always missed that car. After seeing what Romeo had done with it, I missed it more. It looks great! Keep it up, not much left to do except enjoy it.
Also the pin stripe was factory. It’s coded on the fender tag too. Glad it went back on:thumbsup:

hey cool. ya, Romeo did a great job getting it driving and cleaning things up. made it from nevada to los angeles with no problems. if you don't mind my asking, where did you get it from? as far as the stripe, i had to put it back on. at first i thought it was dealer installed but someone else here pointed out it was a factory option. if i could get a full, uninterrupted month to do everything i have the parts for, it would be pretty well done :rolleyes:. so more to come
 
I bought the car at an auction. I was told it was donated when the owner passed away and the family liquidated his estate. I was never in contact with anyone who owned the car prior to me. The auction kept previous owners anonymous and the Arizona MVD is about as helpful as a kick in the butt. So I guess that's where the info trail stops.
I was always curious about that cars history. Oh well, at least it's still living and pretty again.

good deal, what fan are you running? i'm planning on a mech with a fan clutch. just need to get the radiator mounted and confirm which one
 
crap, 3 weeks since i've been able to work on this :realcrazy:
finished making the trans cooler / A/C condenser mounting brackets. the coolers are just the right size for the opening with the mounting tabs bolted together. the outside mounts are using existing holes but i knew it was going to need more support in the center. finally decided on having a single bracket running top to bottom in line with the coolers mounting tabs, so off to the scrap pile...

just need to clean it up a bit and get some paint on it. hopefully it won't take another 3 weeks :rolleyes:
 
Hayden 2947 fan clutch on a 70'+ water pump pulling through a champion 3 core radiator. i won't be dropping the trans without removing one or the other, but it does fit :)

finally got some time to work on the car here :realcrazy: got the radiator in and finished the A/C condenser - trans cooler mounting, ran the tranny lines and started putting some of the wiring back in place.

Typical life stuff with us. Get to the shop when I can. Just about to get the 63 Belvedere (4 door) car driveable.So many little things to do.
 
Naw, just a LA 318. It was the parts car that was sitting in the corner.A friend gave me a Teen and 904 that they took out of a clean low mile 70 Coronet to install a big block. Had to do something with it.Hemi car gets out once a month to blow the dust off it.

before i put the battery in the trunk i decided to do a little clean up first. it's not bad, and i could have left it. the car would have been just fine and outlasted me, but there's no fun in that. so it looks like i'll be making new hangers for the gas tank straps.

took the tank to get cleaned today. it looks good inside but had some chunky stuff in there. probably rust from the filler tube :eek:
since it's out, it'll be getting a new sender and seals. i was thinking of just de-rusting the filler tube and hitting it with some cold galvanizing spray, but think i'll just get a new one.

on the plus side i can do all the torque box welding without the lingering thought of blowing myself up :rolleyes:
 
all of a sudden i seem to have time to work on this :) got the inside of the spare tire well cleaned up and shot with weld through. need to pick up some steel sheet tomorrow to make the new hangers and patches. i thought about cleaning and reusing the old ones, but why bother at this point, they're just folded metal with more rust in between them. even after drilling the welds i had a ***** of a time getting them cut loose. also found a couple of pin holes and spots close to being pinholes, so those will get welded up too.

Been following this thread for awhile until it stopped. What is the liquid solution your using to kill the rust in the spare tire well?
 
ya, i ended up taking a few months off the car because of work and the weather :mad:

i used evapo-rust. it worked pretty well. it had been on a shelf in the garage for a couple of years, i forgot i had it. went to look for some vinegar and found this. luckily all the heavy pits were on the bottom of the tire well, so it was able to soak in pretty good. i just kept brushing it around for about 30 min.

also got the old hangers cut out and the the holes all filled in. should get the tank back by thursday. then i'll be able to finish the new hangers and get the tank reinstalled. i'm still going back and forth on a couple of ways to do the hangers and the battery tray.

i have never seen these before...found them stuffed between the wheel wells and the quarter panel

other than the pitting in the spare tire well there's hardly any rust at all. just some surface stuff. took a full day, but i got the patches welded in, everything cleaned up and started in on the paint but ran out of the green.
