Transmission/Crank alignment help

The Mopar Performance chassis manual mentions that automatic transmissions are much more tolerant to misalignment than manual transmissions are. It does recommend alignment of the automaticu but the case has to be unloaded. The only time I have seen a problem with it was in a 1985 Blazer with 700R4 that was so far out behind a 2.8 v6 that it would break the front drive tube ears off the torque converter slots after about 40,000 miles.
