1964 Valiant "Get Runnin & Drivin"

-
No clear, just straight out of the gun.
My Willy’s I painted with Summit single stage and is still shiny.
If you have air, spend a few extra pennies for at least automotive paint.
I think when I painted my Willy’s a gallon of red was only like $140, plus thinner and reducer.
No clear needed.
The shine you can get with single stage acrylic urethane can be great. I was always told the speed of the reducer can have a big effect, than is slower reducer than what you would normally use will give me depth and shine. Of course, if you are like me, no booth, get it dried before all the bugs lite is a big factor!!!!!
All the time we put into body work, at least a good single stage is worth the $.

STILL LOL---------

Hey, Kern Dog is part of the official grammar patrol I have been reprimanded several times by some of the patrol!!!!! But they do not realize we did not go to school on the left coast! hahahahhahhahahhahah
Great progress. Wow 14 pages, Get to work and type less! haha again!

Got the insulation glue all brushed off the inside of the roof and it's ready for some.......RED!

I roller and brush all my floors and under car with rustoleom oil based, just in case this happens

The stuff just works. All my local friends hollerin POR15 but I've used it. It's messy as heck, gets everywhere.....on your balls, in your buttcrack.....I mean everywhere. It's worse than anti-seize. Plus it's expensive.......and THEN it requires an expensive compatible top coat because it's sensitive to ultra violet light. No, I'm stickin with Rustoleum. It's badass.

Ugly can be cool! I l like my 62 Lancer Road Toad for that reason also.

I have gotten more to the "less is better" minf lately. Headliner? Don't need the thing. Not that they are expensie, but I install my own and always somewhat a pain. So I clean the inside of the roof good, sand it with paper, scotch brite, wipe it down with Ospho, let it dry A FULL DAY< so there is no reaction with the Ospho and any primer/enamel I might use, or I have just brushed it down with Rustoleum , and then applied undercoat/bedliner. I can always do the headliner later if I want. Works for me, but I am simple.

Is that the professional high performance protection oil based enamel rustoleum?? I'm considering using the safety orange since I'm eventually painting it burnt orange anyway.

Aren`t u supposed to wear pants when using that STUFF !!!

Got coat number two on the roof inside tonight. Going to move on to the trunk tomorrow. Sound deadener is on the way.

Well, I sat down and did some figgerin. On our "new" budget with me having to have quit working, it's a hit, but it's funny, it's not actually as bad as I thought. I've always thought it was funny how much working actually COST you to work, but it's true. Nonetheless, it is going to slow me down, of course, so I won't be making the updates as soon as I have been, so bear with me, please. Next of course, will be the sound deadener and that's already on the way, so it will be pretty soon.

Going to get the carpet next month. I checked on getting the seats professionally recovered locally.....and had a major coronary. 700 bucks EACH. This was from a local family owned upholstery business I've used before that does great work. Last seat I had them do was for a 73 D100 I had. It was 170 bucks. Course that was probably 1999 "or so".

He explained that.......like everything else material prices have more than tripled. I should have guessed. SO, that means we won't be goin THAT route. LOL I'll simply have to buy the ready made covers and whatever foam I need and Kitty and I will do it ourselves. It will probably be a few months, but you'll want to stay tuned for "ALL THAT". I Can build engines, transmissions and drive trains, so I'm pretty sure recovering seats is within my skill set. My plan though, in the "now" is to get the sound deadener in, then the carpet and we'll just use the blanket Kitty donated to cover the seat back up, so that I can start driving it again. Then save up for the seat covers. In the meantime, I plan on replacing the original timing chain set in the 170 to give it some extra life. I plan to do a nice how to on that. Since I already have all the parts, that's not too far off.

As far as the roller cammed 225, I may have to back up and use this hot solid flat tappet I already have. I hate doing that, because I already even have roller lifters that'll work, but I gotta stay within our now even smaller budget. I caint replace groceries and cat food with a roller camshaft. Might end up with some pissed off cats. lol

All in all, this is still going to be a FUN project, regardless of financial setbacks.

Valiant Seat Recover

RRR here are some ideas for you on recovering your seats.

What if you had access to an upholstery sewing machine ?
What if you had a good matching red vinyl.

A decent shade of Red for the '64 Valiant that is acceptable.
1/2 Muslin Backed Foam to sew in the seat pleats.

Imagine this blue seat covered in red to match you '64 Valiant's interior.
Nice simple design to sew.

There you go, have fun with your project . . .

Them is some mighty big ifs, but I really like the look of that seat cover.

Aight den. Here is the finished floorpan and inside roof al finished up and cleaned up waitin to have KillMat stuck all over it to hide it. LOL The KilMat came in today and it looks good. I have about 2/3 of it laid out on the Valiant so tomorrow it will be good and soft in the sun. We'll see how it goes.

Well, the Kilmat came in yesterday, so I stacked it on top of the car so today it would get hot and soft and easy to work with. Lemmie tell you.....IT WORKED! This stuff goes on so easy, it almost installs itself. I had worries of it letting go......but that ain't happenin. LOL Anyway, here's some progress shots. It's 97 outside now so I can only stand it a little at a time. Kitty is a huge help peelin and I'm stickin. Sounds like a cheap **** movie....but here it is.

The floor is done. That's all we're doin today. This heat really takes it out of me. Sucks. But I'll get it all done eventually. I think it looks good so far.
