Ran out of time yesterday. Trying to do my homework while at work.
69 dart front drum
Grinding
Found this spring inside drum
I believ it’s part of the self adjuster and can see it In The rock auto parts kit. Question is, so I don’t have to remove other side when I get home... orientation...and which hole. I believe it goes on the little hook on the top of the self adjuster plate to what shoe hole?

Added colored arrows to make orientation of spring ends and where

And that spring has a hook broken off one end. You need a new one.

It goes in the large holes in the bottom of the pads where you have the yellow arrow.

No, the one that goes between both shoes at the bottom where the star wheel is should be longer and smaller diameter coils...

Notice that the longer spring on top goes toward the self adjuster, and the one on the front pad is the shorter one as you have in your hand...

The spring that goes on the bottom near the self adjuster is smaller diameter and longer...

This picture is from the 69 service manual...

Did you also notice that your cable guide is misplaced? It must have come loose when the spring that holds the shoes together at the bottom broke, the self-adjuster was then free to rattle around in there taking the tension off of the cable.

What about the missing balance bar? Or did you already remove that before the photo?

Thanks for the cable guide as I did not notice. Looks like it is the lower shoe spring (yellow hole?) not one of the upper springs. Check out the Napa kit. Guess the squiggly side goes behind the self adjuster plate

I believe No balance bar on the front
And I was trying to avoid pulling the other side to make the repair quick. I did t know it would spiral into this lol

I knew that. I swear. I just didn’t look close enough to realize it was a front. I forget to think before speaking frequently.
