Found a guy who has a 340 block in his stash in his machine shop. Needs one sleeve... He's not sure it has any value.

I made an offer...got to get it shipped via Fastenal to make the deal work.

Film at 11.

Kool...... Keep us informed.
I just picked up a 79 360 complete, out of a 79 Warlock. I also found a 71 360 in a Satelite in a junk yard. I am running out of room, for this stuff.
I'm having another 360 sleeved also.
Wish all this rain would quit so I could get to work on my 66 B-Cuda

Dave..

If that is the 360 that came in that ‘71, that is about as good as you can get in the world of factory production iron blocks. The cylinders were cored on 340 T/A blocks and it’s possible that some of main webs may have come through with the extra iron for four bolt mains in the very early 360 blocks. Sonic testing is required beforehand, but most pre ‘74 360s have enough iron to easily handle 340 o.s. pistons and oftentimes beyond.

That is weird. Hopefully the OP can get them to do it.

Hard to F up iron parts. Body parts are another story and the claims from BS damage are a good reason to stop shipping those components.

I've never seen that.

Also, the number of blocks I've sonic tested (just Chrysler stuff) is well in the hundreds and I've seen two, maybe three of those 360 blocks with bore that thick.

I've never seen any passenger car block ever with thicker main webs and pan rails.

Well I have faith that mine is gonna be on of them! Lol

I built a 360 in the 90s with a 71 block out of a 71 Newport and it did sonic test on the high side but cant recall the number.

There are quite a few cases of thick cylinder walls in the first production runs of 360 castings. It was confirmed that 340 cores were used for the water jackets until the bean counters noticed the expensive high nickel iron was being used up faster than it was supposed to be. Correct on the main webbing, all 360s came with a standard design for the larger main bearing size with two bolt retention. At one time there was some internet speculation that some of the early HD 360 molds used web sections for T/A pass car blocks but after looking closer again it turned out to be an internet myth. Or at least until someone comes across one, which I do not expect to happen.

This poor guy wants to know approx. what a 340 block is worth and everyone goes on a tangent on him???
It depends on the year. 68-70 seized complete long blocks I have gotten $700 for. I just recently picked up a rebuilt 68 340 complete engine that was in a FORD for $500. Its going it my GTS as its period correct. I also just bought a nice running 71 340 engine for $1600. They are worth what someone will pay if they need it. You haven't given enough info.

I think the OP has a handle on the value of the engine he's looking at

That's more than scrap value, hoping you hear back from him soon...

Make sure that sleeve is done correctly..just for comparison I just sold a '72 340 30 over block had it magnaflexed and sonic checked came out excellent for $500.00

Got my 360 race block getting two sleeves at one of my good engine shops right now.

Having three shops I trust to do the machining is priceless.
