So just thinking out loud here but I have to ask.... is there some kind of etiquette or anything behind copying another member's build of his or her car.

Let me explain.

There are a lot of build threads on this site and a lot of us here have the same cars. Same model, same year and often same color.

So is it ok if you see a build thread and think to yourself "that is the most awesome build" and that car stays with you in your mind. So you either run out and buy a car of the same year and model to build a car like the one in the thread or set out to build a car you already own to be like the one in the thread.

Is that odd??

I can say there is one build thread here and it is in my opinion the coolest car I have seen in a long time and I have a car like it. So would it be a copy cat move to paint and build it just the the one in my now favorite thread?

If you restore a car to original, you are copying what the factory did. Yet rarely can we actually accomplish a 100% copy. I would expect the same if you copy someone's build. Try as you may. It will still end up different. But I don't see any problem in trying.

I see it one way: My car, my money, my way. Is there really a new idea or build???

Well, im building Jay Leno's Hurst !
Only his is 340/5speed/Fastback
Mine is a 440/4speed/Notch

Copy all you want.

Can you copy a work of art?

Nope, it will always have your mark no matter how hard your try.

Just do your thing and be proud.

That's all you can do. No point in even trying to be something else. Your mark will stand out.

Be proud of your work and own it. Even if it is a copy it will still be you.

I knew a guy that was building a '68 Charger. I painted my '70 a late model red color and he liked it...He asked if I minded that he used the same color.
I was fine with that. Personally, I wouldn't have asked if I were him because I have no right to tell another man what to do with his own money...What would he have done if I objected?

I love your car. My lady is from your neck of the woods. Some day I may walk up your road.

Hell my car is a copy of this one.

Except I cant afford to build that car so I just did the best I could.

In the end it's a copy but it's not the same.
Its MY CAR.

What car ? If u don't mind .

I think it's ok. Imitation they say is the sincerest form of flattery, so I think it would be ok. Why? You buildin a bright red Valiant?

I dont think there is nothing wrong with using other people's idea or something like that but I dont think it would really be yours if you did it exactly like someone else's car. For example I had every intention of painting my car black until I got on here and saw abodyjoes dart in fk5 burnt orange. It just caught my attention and I couldn't stop thinking about it until I decided to paint mine fk5 burnt orange. Mine is a 75 his is 70(I think) so I'm not cloning his car just using the color. And its not like anyone owns the rights to a certain color or color combination. As long as you do it your way and it's what you truly like and want I don't see why it should matter!

I think it's always been that way with Build's, we used to buy magazines and get ideas for Build's, now we have the internet and forum's to look at what we like. I've always got a lot of my ideas from other Build's I've seen and improved on them to my taste, I think it's perfectly normal for all of us.

Yea I agree. We get ideas from anywhere and everywhere and incorporate it into our style.

The shop next to me got a valiant in bright red as a trade, They now have my old 340 block also.

Watch out rusty!

No, stop! Let me explain something to you. It is simple. It is, “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.” And if that particular person is offended, then I say they have a screw loose.

It is also not pressing the easy button but a huge time saver because you have found the big “IT!” Instead or busting a few brain cells and getting it wrong multiple times.

Name the person, car & build! I wanna check out what you dig so much. And go for it! Build that bad boy up!

That color is just amazing on that year of duster. That one year only stripe with the little dust guy on the rear of the car with that blue as the background just looks fantastic.

The 72 bench seat is so cool and looks comfy.

It helps that 72 is my favorite year for Chrysler. They didn't make anything that year that I don't like.

Now that i look it again. One difference is mine won't have a vynil top and mine will have rally wheels because I only use factory wheels so that is different but I LOVE that color on this year of duster and I been lusting at the sight of this car.

Your valiant is going to be faster because its red

You are more likely to get speeding tickets in a red car.

Cops like to stop red cars.

Bees will sting guys who red cars

The girl in the red Ferrari in national lampoon's vacation will like you if you pull up side by side in a red valiant.

LOL :poke:

How do they say ?
" What ever turns you on, Brah " or "Floats your boat"
I say do what u like, and tell the guy MAHALO for the idea !!!

That is the first time I have ever seen a painted bumper look so sweet. That car captures the vibe perfect
