Do you guys know of a decent way to store lifters in the correct order if you don't have a proper lifter box?

I have use a block of wood and a spade bit, works well for push rods also....

Agree with Dicer.
Have used a 2x6 with holes drilled for the lifters, push rods and the cam laying down the middle.
Cheap effective DIY holder.

Pill bottles from pharmacy, number with permanent marker, or apply sticky labels. If storing long term, fill with fresh engine oil. For long term storage of a camshaft, use 2 inch PVC pipe with cap glued on one end and a clean out screw cap glued on other end, fill with oil and store upright.
