I need to replace my front fenders was thinking about fiberglass ones there $695 a pair new, anyone else using them?

yes. I used glasstek's on my last car. If you need fenders I'd go fiberglass.

Drawbacks, a little more work in prep and fit. Benefits, no rust and weight savings.

Interested in hearing people's thoughts too. I plan to swap my steel fenders for fiberglass when I have it repainted to complete the SS look.

They will/can/do crack and spiderweb with age.
TMM is correct, I have them on mine and I bought a very nice pair. Mine have cracked at TDC on the fender. Not sure if you can see it in the pix attached or not. But they look fine and are easy to repair. I wanted to shed weight. But quite frankly they are just as TMM says, not a question of will they, more a question of where!

Not sure Who made these, but they've been on for aprox. 10 years. -- hood, also. -- They are quite thick.

There is a difference between race weight and street weight on fiberglass parts

Was thinking of buying a bolt on fiberglass decklid for my sons 69 notch. Will probably just fix the rot on the bottom of what i have.

Mine have been on the car since '93. Can't remember who made them. No cracking or spiderweb yet. Fingers crossed.

Is the weight saving on a quality fiberglass piece compared to steel negligible? At this point in the auto's life, a well prepared steel fender will probably out live the rest of the car as far as rust is concerned.

That is true, however sometimes its not about the steel piece, in some cases its the fact that the person building the car cant either find the steel fender in good enough condition to repair. A steel repop is not made for their vehicle yet, or may never be produced, and a fiberglass one happens to be available. Or an original steel fender might be too expensive as NOS even if you find one.

Case in point second gen barracuda fenders. I have seen NOS ones go for anywhere from $900 to $1200 each fender, and the sellers actually get their price!!! I have seen people on here tig weld 4 of these fenders together to make 1 good one. Have also seen guys selling rotted to **** 67-69 cuda fenders for $300 each. In this case if your not lucky to have a decent set of em to start with, dont have the skillz to piece together a fender out of multiple fenders, and dont want to take out a second mortgage on your house , then fiberglass fenders makes perfect sense.

I got very lucky and found a set of oem 69 cuda fenders, header panel, and valance that i could use. Found locally on fakebook auto trader for $500 they also came with other barracuda parts i could use. However before this, I was seriously concidering fiberglass (street 'glass) fenders. Was wondering on that deck lid, however i may still try to patch what i got.

How would anyone know they are glass fenders? "the look"

Yes that's what I meant. It was a long day at the car show yesterday lol

Well.. sort of...

67's didn't have them, 68's were round and 69's were rectangular, (70 and later I wouldn't be able to tell you) When I have bought steel fenders or quarters I always ordered for a 1967 because I think the smoother look is much more appealing.

Moving on from there, it is possible to mount the side parkers from 68 and 69 fenders and quarters in to 67 steel or glass parts. I'd smooth the quarters and leave the glass fenders as is. People will assume you have a 1967 and in my opinion it will look cleaner.
