Wow and this ain't April fools, either!

I never seen that one coming! I'm still having a hard time thinking about all the good old brands like Oldsmobile, and Pontiac, Mercury and of course Plymouth being gone.

consumers continue to reject Ford Fusions and Chevy Cruzes..... Americans take pride in their ride. When gas is affordable, Americans want a vehicle with a statement. That is why truck sales are so high, and the virtually "unchanged" challenger continues to sell.

So true, if GM had made the new camaro more retro and ford hadn't turned the mustang back into a more generic looking car they could have sold plenty.

Eventually there will be only one automobile manufacturer. The Gooberment.

olds, Pontiac, mercury, Plymouth, Hudson, Packard, Studebaker, Henry J, Edsel, DeSoto, and just think of the car companies in the '50's that are no longer with us. Why don't new American car companies come up? So many safety and EPA regulations, it's difficult to make an affordable car, let alone start a new company.
  • REMEMBER, when companies lose competition, quality and customer satisfaction goes down in a hurry. A real bad thing.

Aerodynamics and epa regulation has created cookie cutter cars. Too bad the lack of available money has not created the same scenarios in the construction of schools and government buildings.

People still buy cars? I thought most were leased....? Id take a restored 50 year old car over a new one these days. At least you can see the water pump on the old ones.....No smog to worry about (getting tested for) and no O2 sensors to change out every 3 years. Imagine getting into a $10K semi-restored 69 Dart with that new car smell and a perfectly tuned motor and tight suspension, all while saving $15K over a boring new Camry..?

Tesla, Inc.
yeah, I thought of them when I wrote my post. I was thinking of the traditional combustion chamber cars, more common with car lots in local towns.
I guess it would be sad for me to see GM/Ford merger, even though i'm a mopar guy

Bond Knew.

BMW Group owns BMW, Mini, and Rolls-Royce. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles owns Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Maserati, and Ram. General Motors owns Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC. Hyundai Motor Group owns Genesis, Hyundai, and Kia

There are no facts cited in that about a merger from either automotive group, just general financial woes and pure speculation on the part of the author.

Everything is just about bottom line. And I hate to say it but the autonomous car is coming. Actually is here in some major cities. Nothing like having no control. Sorry I went the other way. Bothers me.

I still think the fact that Ford didn't partake in the free government money, (bailout) hurt them in the long run. I maybe a die hard mopar fan but I never want to see Ford motor company shut it's doors

IMO it's all about $$$$$$ . You have to wonder why Plymouth , Mercury, Pontiac , Olds are no longer with us . To make room for Honder, Teeyota , Farts and Huundies ? Was there a good American car built in the '70's ? NO ! The Feds, EPA and CARB and the safety guys stepped in and boy did we get screwed . Don't get me wrong , I'm for safety , economy and that stuff , but, 11 computers in a truck and 10 air bags is just stupid . Not being able to service your own vehicle SUCKS . Self driving cars SUCK more .

Reality.........waaaaay overpriced. But hey, everybody wants to support their own countries products right? NO. They are simply losing out to foreign markets and major price differences. People really don't care about the brand or the loyalty. It is all about their own bottom line, and unfortunately, the bottom line is cheaper to buy a Hyundai.
Yes, I used a diesel 3/4 ton truck as an example. That is what I drive and have been for 30 years.
Ridiculous.

New cars are mostly garbage and the plastic interiors gassing off probably gives a lot of people cancer. All garbage, comfort at the price of health, retirement, quality and overall ends up a money pit within 6-12 yrs.
Reg fees,full coverage. LoL!
Your 40k car costs you 78 grand!
