pro and cons of fiberglass fenders

Is the weight saving on a quality fiberglass piece compared to steel negligible? At this point in the auto's life, a well prepared steel fender will probably out live the rest of the car as far as rust is concerned.

That is true, however sometimes its not about the steel piece, in some cases its the fact that the person building the car cant either find the steel fender in good enough condition to repair. A steel repop is not made for their vehicle yet, or may never be produced, and a fiberglass one happens to be available. Or an original steel fender might be too expensive as NOS even if you find one.

Case in point second gen barracuda fenders. I have seen NOS ones go for anywhere from $900 to $1200 each fender, and the sellers actually get their price!!! I have seen people on here tig weld 4 of these fenders together to make 1 good one. Have also seen guys selling rotted to **** 67-69 cuda fenders for $300 each. In this case if your not lucky to have a decent set of em to start with, dont have the skillz to piece together a fender out of multiple fenders, and dont want to take out a second mortgage on your house , then fiberglass fenders makes perfect sense.

I got very lucky and found a set of oem 69 cuda fenders, header panel, and valance that i could use. Found locally on fakebook auto trader for $500 they also came with other barracuda parts i could use. However before this, I was seriously concidering fiberglass (street 'glass) fenders. Was wondering on that deck lid, however i may still try to patch what i got.
