I'm doing my 68 Barracuda and while is not a numbers matching car I am trying to make it as nice as possible. I received a call the other day and was told that the top plates that my friend had for the console had the wood grain decal on them which to me means that the plates were from a 69 and not a 68. Since I don't have either a 68 or 69 console in front of me I need to know what the difference is other than the groove that runs through the center of the 68 plates and the push button on the 69 console glove box.

I think the push button is 72 and up.

Check Detroit Muscle. I think you can tell from their wood grain kits what the configuration is.

This is 69 to 71, 68 is the one with the black notch down the center

I think that they offered a deluxe interior package which included wood grain on the console, door panels and dash but if you notice it still had the groove down the center, 69 didn't have the groove, looks like the wood grain was added to this console.

Thread title changed and moved to interior forum.

Pushbutton started i believe in 71. No matter, going to use the pushbutton setup with spring loaded door hinge on my sons 69 notch.

Pushbutton started in 1970, 69 is one year only. I still have not been able to verify that any 66-68 console had woodgrain, though I have seen quite a few, all the consoles in factory literature are painted with light argent.

Wood grain shown in post #4 is not OEM. 67/68 didn't have wood grain on console. Deleting that ash/dust/everything collecting groove in the middle of top was one good thing they did. Then their added push button is the same piece of crap as on glove box doors. If used regularly the spring inside eventually overcomes the 2 little screws in pot metal holding the assembly together. It falls apart.

Do whichever one you like best. I did the silver "groove" one because fake wood grain looks corny to me. I won't have the fake wood grain shifter ball or steering wheel so it really doesn't go with anything. There are some aftermarket overlays to get away from the fake wood look.

As I said in the beginning, it will never be a numbers matching car and I knew that from the beginning but I would like it to at least look like whats its supposed to be. We have all seen cars that if not for a few things would be nice cars, If I have a 68 I want it to look like a 68.

I just went with a custom one, I bought just the base. But glad you found a decent top plates.
