I’m working on my 2000 Dodge Durango 5.9 4x4. I’m having serious power loss and some issues. While inspecting possible fail points, I came across my alternator pigtail and discovered that the wires were exposed and twisted. I also discovered a third wire that comes from the same area but isn’t connected to anything. I searched everywhere and couldn’t find a sensor or connector anywhere that is missing a wire. Any ideas as to what the heck it goes to. My alternator pigtail is a 2 wire. I’ve attached pics below.

This is the charging schematic for your truck.Any chance you can get the wire colors on the unidentified connector?

That loose connector goes into the back of the alternator, socket is flush, right above the heavy wire connector. At least thats what it looks like from here.

I think that wire is supposed to be grounded to the front of the head. Look for a stud and nut with an eyelet that still on it.

2000 Dakota-

Looks like it does ground...to the bracket about 6 inches away.
