one wire alt

As I recall, one wire alternators have a drain of about 75 microamps all the time. This in not much, but will drain a battery over enough time. I ran into this with my boat. If I didn’t unhook the battery it would go dead in about 3 weeks if it hadn’t been started. Not normally an issue with cars that are driven frequently.

You don’t need the regulator because one wire alternators have the regulator built in. This is what is drawing the current mentioned.

Make sure you have a large enough wire to handle the additional current. I like running the wire in a piece of fuel line to make sure it doesn’t short to the frame. Big wire shorted with no fuse = big fire.
