who is the best person out there for mechanical roller cam advice ? build you a cam ? and it will make the best cam for your 500 cubic inch rb ???? go !!!!!!!!!!!

There is no "best".

The difference in power between cams is damn near nothing on the dyno. The track may say differently though.

The best thing any one can do is get on the PHONE (not an email or an idiotic text) and TALK to as many cam guys as you can.

You'll find they are some who just rub you the wrong way, and hopefully one of two that float your boat and that's who you get your cams from.

When I had a weekly business contact with Cam Motion I almost never used anything else. We were on the same page to the last dot.

I still use their stuff.

I also use Jim at Racer Brown. He's forgotten more than some of these clowns actually think they know.

There is Mike Jones. Used his stuff.
There is the Dewayne Porter right here on FABO (hope I spelled that correctly...I apologize if I didn't) who can spec a Comp lobe that will do all you want and more. Goes by PRH on here.

There are others I'm not mentioning.

The best cam will come from the cam grinder you get on best with. And that cam won't come off the shelf most of the time.

Harold Brookshire was what I would call the best. Sadly, he is no longer with us. If you look at the Lunati VooDoo designs in the camshaft type of your choice, you're looking at Harold's last designs. He was perhaps the best on the planet while he was alive. Ken at Oregon Cam Grinders is another good choice. He's still alive so you can actually talk to him. I forget the guy at Schneider......paging @MOPAROFFICIAL he'll know who to tel you to get in touch with at Schneider. They are also good.

I never call anybody to pick out a grind. I do it myself. I may call to get a general direction, but in the end, it's my money and it's my decision.

I went over and talked to Ken at Oregon cam grinding in person and found that to be the best way to go for me. I was happy with my last grind he did for me and very happy with the new grind I have...
remembering back on the first cam conversation he said that's not going to idle very well and I was like yeah yeah! He said that's going to be high up in the RPM range for power with that stroker you have? I said yeah yeah! LOL he said it's going to go like hell on the drag strip I said oh yeah oh yeah! LOL well damn it I got what I wanted and it wasn't all that great on the street like you said it wouldn't be. The new cam has most of the power, a lot of the rumble, and it can hold a semi-decent semi-rough idle. And pull from 17 or 1500 RPMs in a given gear... Oddly enough not quite as loud at idle as well. All an all, both cams were exactly what I wanted...

Chris Padgitt at Bullet Cams. Was one of the long term cam guys at Comp for many years and Lunati prior to that.
Is Chris at Bullet now? The last time I talked to him he was with Crane.

Was only at Crane a short time.

Talk to as many as u want, then make up ur own mind , you are the one that has to live with it , or change it .
I went with a solid roller that I`ve always had good luck with and liked , had to down size to make my fuel run better , "only lost 6 h.p. , but picked up 7 pounds of torque. "by the books.

Well that's more what I am looking for lunati-40230734 voodoo cam. Haven't talked with anyone yet. But I had not look at any of these cams. This one at least puts out good computer numbers. The ootb 240's may have to be worked to get anymore. That's what I'm not sure of.

Duane Porter, he's on Moparts as Fast68Plymouth. He's got a top notch rep as a head porter and cam guy. Brian @ IMM, IIRC he's OU812 here is another builder that I'd talk to, he built my current engine and I'm happy with it. HTH, Steve
