i found this locally and bought it. I’ll try and attach pics. Can anyone tell me anything about it? I want to put it in my 64 Slant, I think I heard that 64 and 65 have different bellhousings. I believe this is a 65. Also, can these shifters be rebuilt? Is there anything special about Hurst Competition/Plus(I don’t know much)? Any sources for rebuild part suppliers would be appreciated.

To my knowledge the bellhousings differ 3 to 4 speed and I believe 67 and later used a bigger flywheel.Earlier ones being for 122 tooth flywheel and the later being 130 tooth flywheel. But in any case, 3 speed bellhousings are for 3 speed only unless they have the dual bolt pattern. Again this is to my knowledge,I'm sure some else may have further input. The first is three speed only, the second is four speed only, the third is both

I believe there are 2 cast numbers for 4 speed bells for the slant, they are not easy to find and not cheap either. I have one saving for a rainy day. The shipping was enough alone. lol

That’s either a 64 or 65 transmission. The Ball and Trunnion flange on the rear is a dead giveaway. Should have a 3.09 first gear as well. The 64 and 65 slant bells are somewhat different, mainly where the bracket with the ball for the Z Bar is mounted. IIRC @Bigboy 68 had a 64 bell as he was looking for a 65 bell. I saved the slant bell and 833 for a possible future project that I removed from a 65 Signet. As mentioned those slant 4 speed bels aren’t the easiest to come by.

EDIT: those transmissions are a stout unit with the extra bearing in the tail shaft. The B Body variant was used behind Maxi’s and Hemis in 64 and early 65

I have two 3 speeds, one is a column shift unit and the other is a floor shift unit. The floor shift unit has the same bolt pattern as my 4 speed and the column shift unit is different. The two bellhousings I have look like pictures 1 and 2 above.

A trunnion drive shaft in GOOD condition is a stout piece, as they were used successfully behind the mighty max wedge. But if you search this form, you will find a conversion made for it that uses a slip yoke/pinion type deal.

Shifter looks like an old GTO piece. Look for the numbers on the reverse arm. All early A's use the 9.5 clutch. Get the 10" clutch and pressure plate kit from Brewers Performance. Brewers also sells parts to rebuild Hurst shifters.

I have a bellhousing I can check for you tomorrow. It was in a-100. 225 slant with 64-65 a body 833. It had a spacer that went over the retainer plate, so it may just be a regular. It retains the 4speed shifter on the column.

I’ll check it out later this morning. What will those numbers tell me?

Apparently mine matches a 77 slant 4 spd od I found in the archives here. Trans I have is a 64-65 A body 833, retainer ring spacer may be the same as the ones brewers sells, but I didnt measure. But the \6 4spd combo was great

Yep, that's a 3.09 box, non overdrive. The only issue for me is the front u joint has that trunion.

Pretty good score.
