ok, I’m going to ask several questions at once and hopefully this will make sense. I have a 64 slant Valiant w I assume is the original 7 1/4 rear end. I found a 3.09 4 speed A833 gearbox Im going to try to use in it. I also have a D100 2wd truck frame w a SureGrip rear axle that is geared 3.23. I am not sure but was under the impression that I can swap out the innards of the rearends and use the SureGrip( someone please tell me if that won’t work). Further, it’s gearedat 3.23.... what can I expect from this setup? Any input is welcome...... All of these things are out of my comfort level because I’ve never done it before. TIA

Your 64 will have a 7 1/4" rear axle in it.

No it won't work.. you can't swap the "innards" between the 2 rear ends. They are different designs and ring gear diameters. The truck rear will not fit in your early a body without shortening the housing either. The best thing to do is look for a A body 8 3/4 and change the whole thing.

toolmanmike , nailed it.
remove the carrier from the truck rearend (there are 3 styles of carrier cases; in order of beefyness #741, #742 & #489)
find an a-body 8.75 rear housing & axles and your in business, less the truck gear set is trashed..post install/driving down the road would not be the ideal time to find that out.
Having said that, the 3:23s with the low 1st gear 4 speed should make for a very good set up.
