Ive searched, and im still a little unclear, so i was hoping you guys could help. I just bought a roller 73 dart sport, /6, 3 on the tree, and the previous owner did the OEM disc brake swap. Yay! Except its still on the small bolt pattern, so my wheels wont work.

This will be a 95% track, 5% street car, so im ok selling the OEM setup, and going to some Wilwoods or Stranges. But it looks like they are only made for the drum spindle. Is my only option to change out the disc spindle too? And how will i know if i have the correct balljoint setup? Again, being a drag car, i want my front end to move with the least amount of resistence without the shock.

Thanks!

Get ahold of Cass at Doctordiff.com. When I was talking with him about my options for my Barracuda, he said he could get me rotors with my small bolt pattern, then when I switch everything to big bolt pattern, I would just have to switch out the rotors.

It's possible that he has a big bolt pattern rotor you can just use to replace the small bolt pattern rotor you have now. He would be able to tell you if you need to change anything else.

What kind of track? Drag, Autocross, Ralley, etc? Are you looking to remove weight? There are several factors when deciding what will work for the intended use.

You can find lightweight drag race kits for the disc brake knuckles. First thing is to figure out which disc brake knuckle you have since there are several different ones. Post a picture and I can tell you what you have. A '73 should have the big bolt pattern and the big ball joint but if someone has been swapping parts around it could have most anything on there.

Its the small bolt pattern, replaced upper control arm, caliper in the back one lol. Someone did do the swap before me.

Okay so the last guy swapped backwards to the '72 and down small bolt pattern, small ball joint combo. He didn't do you any favors there that is for sure. You just need to figure out how big your budget is and which way you want to go. You could find some drum knuckles to bolt on there and then do a swap that is based on the drum knuckle or you can go back to the late model big ball joint and big bolt pattern setup. Maybe shop around and find the best deal. I have a new set of late model (big ball joint) upper control arms that I'll sell for a discount. Late model knuckles are easy to find and then you'll have a bunch of choices for brake kits.

What would be the cheapest way to go disc brakes, bbp, with what i have? Lol no harm in asking....Or i could throw the small ball joint to big ball joint adapters on, right?

There's always guys looking for those brakes, the going price seems to be around $300. Find someone with 10" drums to sell them to, and work a deal to trade for his drum spindles. Then the door is wide open for aftermarket disc kits, and you have a little money to go towards the kit of your choice.

Correct me if im wrong, but wouldnt this work with the upper ball joint adapters?

1962-74 MOPAR, Dodge, Plymouth Disc Brake Conversion, Stock Height Spindles

That’s correct. But there’s no way I’d buy that kit from POL. Buy it from DoctorDiff

10.95" Front Disc Brake Kit (Stage 1)

Price is slightly higher, but the calipers come powder coated and you get Timken bearings, not some generic junk. DoctorDiff has amazing customer service, and he has the upper ball joint adapters you need anyway.
