Hi guys, I recently picked up a set of heads at a swap meet that are supposed to be a set of 340 T/A heads. I knew a little bit about them before I bought them, like the casting number and "U" that is casted into them, but they have neither. The do have the pushrod holes drilled correctly though. The guy I bought them from told me they were over the counter performance heads, and they were complete and priced reasonable, so I bought them. I have yet to find a single bit of information on them, and was wondering if anyone has any knowledge about what they are, and what they were used for. My guess is they were used by race teams back in the day, but like I said I really don't know. They have absolutely no porting done, and the valves measure at 2.02/1.60 like they are supposed to. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Logan.

U , j , o ,x can all be the same head.
I'm no expert , but have many small block 340's
It is my understanding that t/a AAR blocks had j heads with relocated push rods?

From what I understand, T/A's are j heads with relocated holes, but these are strange because they have little to no markings on them.

T/A heads are specific to T/A blocks which came in RT Challengers and AAR Cudas
these are six pack motors the push rod holes are in a different location and the
rocker assembly matched the hole configuration. You should post some pictures
of them for proper I.D. This are of value to a guy building a TA engine but thats
about as special as they get, the port size and valve size are the same as any x heads.

I understand that they came on T/A challengers, and AAR cudas on 340 six packs, and that they use offset rockers due to the pushrod holes, but I am wondering the story behind my heads. they have no O,U,J casted into them, they don't have 360 cast above the valvespring like the ''J'' heads do, and it has a casting number, but it isn't 915, and I cant even really read it. As far as the way the heads are made, they are correct. I found the lack of markings strange, and was wondering if anyone has seen replacement, or over the counter T/A heads before to back up the story of the guy I bought them from, or if they were a prototype casting or something crazy like that.

Mopar came out in 90s with a replacement head based on the 308 casting. They had the pushrod relocated

Photos................we have GOT to have photos.......

P4529493 is the part number of the replacement head...No longer available

http://www.tascaparts.com/oe-mopar/p4529493

the 308/576 head casting came with 2.02 / 1.60 valves with the moved pushrod (same as the TA) is a TA replacement head from Mopar in the 1990s.

Probably going to need the TA rockers...Good luck finding them...or you can buy TA aluminum rockers from Harland Sharp that work on the TA head.

Mopar High-Performance Replacement Cylinder Heads

'Back-in-the-Day' ~ They did offer the following >

* 340 'High Performance'
* 340 T/A
* 440 CHP {1967 440 HP} > These Heads were pre-milled {.030"}

I'll see if I can dig up the Part and Casting #'s.
