You’re assuming the 17’s will be heavier. That’s a lousy assumption.
The 18x10’s I run with 295/35/18’s weigh the same as a 15x7 cop wheel with a 225/60/15. The 18x9’s with 275/35/18’s I run up front are lighter. Go figure.
That or he is assuming a bigger wheel automatically means a taller tire, reducing overall gear ratio. In either case, I agree that it's a bad assumption.
