Suggestions on how or where to hook up the copper wire for this to a 340 SB?

That's missing the sending bulb. Should be a capillary system I think it is called.

Never saw one off before. Not sure it usually goes into the same place as the sending unit. That tube hollow?

That is a stainless braided line, with a copper wire inside. This is where the gauge gets its readings from, I guess....

Yep. got some issues there.. I don't see the bulb, or nut, halifaxhops mentioned for the temp.
That copper wire was probably added for a ground for a different type of light.
The one for the temp has it's own ground..

Yes, the heat transfers through the copper to the gauge but you need the nuts to screw into the intake. I have never seen them separated unless it was broken.

Yep. the bulb is gas (not gasoline) filled and calibrated. the gas expands with temperature and is transferred through the small copper tube up to the gauge.
If the bulb is missing, it is no good.

Thanks, I know what a typical unit looks like. Not sure what gauge I have. It sounds like I need to find a new bulb for it.

Well looks like it cannot be replaced. Have to get a new gauge.

I think he has a thermocouple type gauge, not a capillary style tube type. So it’s just the probe copper looking end (the anode/cathode) being held in the coolant. I’ve ran a similar style device to turn on cooling fans automatically. I remember that I had the cathode/anode inserted In the upper radiator hose and the hose clamped down over it, sealing it over, with about an inch or so of anode/cathode hanging out in the coolant.

I believe you are correct. Sounds like a good try.

I don't think so. It looks like a manual gauge to me. The thermocouple type gauge would just have a wire. He has a manual gauge from what I see. VDO Vision Series Analog Gauges 180101
