I live across the street from the fairgrounds, and today is the annual bowfishing tourney. I snapped a few pics of the boats heading out.

I’m building a bow fishing rig right now. Not going to look anything like those but it will get the job done.

There were a lot of 'plain jane' rigs heading out. I'm not into fishing, but this I might like... NO... no more spendy hobbies until the Cuda is done!

I think so. This is the flyer for it.

Looks like carp and alligator gar. Those are usually the only fish that are permitted to be bowfished. Occasionally catfish are allowed too.

I wouldn’t eat Carp or Gar, they just aren’t very good eating, kinda nasty. But some people do.

Those rigs aren’t cheap but you can do it on a budget. I paid $900 for my boat. I’m using my old compound now that you can buy used for a couple hundred. The fishing part of the bow is usually $100. Where those guys have their money is lighting and equipment on the boats.

I have no idea what an alligator gar is, lol. We do have a lot of bullhead fishing around here, is that considered a carp? I've had bullhead, my aunt use to fry it up with breading when I was a kid, and even not liking fish, that was good stuff.

Bullhead is a catfish and they are good eating like pretty much all catfish.

An alligator gar is a prehistoric looking critter with a long snout that looks like a gator...full of teeth.

Some people like to eat them but their eggs are toxic. I won’t eat any fish where some part of it is toxic.

Ook. Kinda reminds me of a girl I woke up with one time after a very fun night. Parts of her were toxic too. :)

In Missouri They have an annual red neck fishing tourn. My buddies used to inter. They said the only rule was you couldn't use a fishing pole. Catch the most pounds of those flying carp you win.
