Things just keep going down hill with this dart. I installed the new street dominator intake on my 440. Did it like ive always done, new valley pan and GOOD sealer, and it wont idle because its leaking along both sides so bad! I mocked the thing up and the bolts went right in and all, but its leaking..I can spray carb cleaner along the sides of it and it will rev a little. Ive sure know my share of people that have put aftermarket intakes on with no issues, so i dont understand this..

What gaskets did you use?

Heads ever milled?
No, heads never milled.Ive ran the stock intake up till now. I didnt use gaskets, just the valley tray with sealant, like i always have. I didnt even use sealant on the stock intake when i built the engine,..when i took the stock intake off, all there was is the valley tray and it never leaked..

I would recommend using paper gaskets with aluminum intakes.

Im going to try that..Do i use them on BOTH sides of the valley tray or just the intake side or? Also, curious as to why some say aluminum intakes need the paper gaskets to seal? Im asking because i want to learn why..not being a smart butt.

Or maybe cinks in tray? I use a form a gasket to seal up the tray. It can be a little messy. But I count on the tray being a little "Off" on size and fit.

use on both sides. I use Edelbrock gasgacinch sealer.

I will try it, but i did use sealant on both sides of the tray so not sure why it didnt seal any imperfections..Like i said, the original intake didnt have ANYTHING but the valley tray..no gaskets or sealant or anything..I hope the gaskets fix this, i was really looking forward to the new intake.

You are correct , the original cast iron intake only used the tin valley pan.
paper and valley pan is recommended for aluminum intakes.
don't quote me. but I think the 6 packs used paper and valley pan.

gasgacinch is a sealer.
oh ok. I always heard it was like contact cement or something. More like something just to hold gaskets in place. Should i get some or should it seal with the gaskets dry?

I would get some gasgacinch. every tool chest should have some, good stuff

Well there you go. Aluminum intakes MUST use a paper or composite gasket. I like the felpro blue ones.

ok. I am getting gaskets tomorrow but does anyone know why aluminum intakes must use gaskets when the iron ones dont?

The only sealer you need with the blue Felpros is around the

I know one reason is because of the torque difference between the manifolds. The iron intakes can torque a lot higher. Aluminum intakes are only supposed to get like 20 LB FT. I'm sure that's not the only reason. I ran into the same thing on the 351M in my truck. It has a factory intake valley, but with the aluminum intake I have to stack gaskets on top and bottom of the intake pan. Why? "That's just how it is" is the best answer I know. lol

If i use gasgacinch on both sides of the gaskes to bond them to the valley tray, will the gaskets then tear and make a mess when i remove the tray next time or does this let you peel the paper gasket off in one peice without a bunch of scraping?

They will tear. Nothing a wire wheel or scotch bright wont take care of tho..

Trying to decide if i should put the gaskets on dry or with the gasgacinch..Just want it to seal this time for sure. The gaskets are 25.00 and if it still doesnt seal and i have to take it back apart, i dont want the gaskets to be ruined, but at the same time, if using the gasgacinch increases the odds that it WILL seal by a lot, then i would like to use it..
