Getting ready to put hood pins on 6 pak hood .What type of bit is best to drill the hood pin holes.Need to drill holes so we can paint it any suggestions on a good hood pin set under 200 dollars.Does anyone have a photo of the location of the hood pins where they bolt to the rad support for a 70 duster. Thanks for any help

If it was me I would "grind' the hole through the fiberglass. A drill bit might tear up the fiberglass and leave a jagged edge or fracture the gel coat. You know something like a carbide bit in a die grinder.

As far as location, I think I would install the pins first in the core support (or wherever), maybe put a dab of paint on the end of the pin and gently close or lay the hood onto the pins. Make the holes where the mark is on the underside of the hood.

Scribe the correct-sized hole with a Sharpie. Start small and get a hole through the material first. Then gradually enlarge the hole to the correct size with the small grinding bit.

Disclaimer: I've never done this but that's probably the way I would approach it..

Use a step drill buy it a harbor freight .

The picture is a 71 duster with factory pins. Note the access hole to tighten the lower nuts for adjustment. All fenders have the dimples where to drill the holes in the fenders. You may have to cut the access holes as I did in the one fender because it was a 70 fender.

The holes for the hood pins may already be there. If they aren't, the location has a 1/2" dimple where the hood pin goes. Just drill it out and you're there! Most of the earlier cars that I've run into already have the holes drilled, they were already drilled on both of my '71 GT's, and on one of the '71 Dart fenders I put on my Duster when I was changing it over.

Here's some pictures of the location on a Duster

As for the hood pins themselves, Summit has the Hotchkis hood pins for $170. I like them quite a bit more than the stock style, but they're definitely more expensive.

***Edit***

Looks like oldmanmopar beat me to it! :D

Do either of you have a pic of what the radiator support looks like under the fender? I want to add hood pins to my 67 Valiant with a glass hood but don't want to cut up my fenders to do it. I was thinking of cutting the pin shafts to size then drill and tap the bottoms to screw to my factory locations. Any thoughts? How far do your pins stick up on the Duster?

Would those hood pin locations also aply for the 73 to 76 duster? I had some 73 dart fenders and they already had a hood pin hole in them from new, one was NOS. But my 74 and 75 dusters have no hole or even a dimple I can see.

I bought Aerocatch about $70 . I really like them neat and clean , no cables. they can be painted.

I just got my Aerocatch pins...still wrangling with the hood adjustment before I drill.

Has anyone used these with an AAR fiberglass hood? Any tips are welcome before I make a mess out of things. :D

I've literally tried to adjust this for hour and hours with tiny incremental movements and I guess the hood might be slightly warped...I'm hoping that the pins can at least hold it in place and that it doesn't fatigue over time.

I put Areolatch locks in a few years back. There should be instructions . If not place your studs first as you would any pen set up . Then to drill for the holes in the hood. I think I used some very sticky red grease on top the studs
and shut the hood , that left marks where you will drill. My kit came with temp plates , center those to the holes and tape down . Use a drummel or something to cut out area for latches. Its pretty straight forward and they hold tight and can be adjusted. Best thing is you don't have those cables flopping around .

By the way this wasn't on a AAR hood but should make no difference style or year their universal
