I just replaced the electric fuel pump on my 71 Duster 360/380 crate engine with a new Holley blue pump and regulator. It has a new 3/8 fuel line on it. The problem that I am having is that when the engine is cold I have the fuel pressure set at near 8 psi. After the engine warms up it drops to 3 psi. Sometimes the regulator doesn’t react very well when attempting to adjust. Has anyone else had any trouble with the Holley blue regulators? The fuel pump is mounted on the passenger frame rail slightly higher than the pick up tube coming out of the tank but I never had any trouble with this configuration when I was running an LA 360 in this car with a different Holley blue pump and regulator. Any ideas?

I ran a Holley black pump for a while. Make sure it is getting 12v, the more constant the better. It should put out good pressure even with lower voltage. I would suspect the regulator. Is it a return style or dead head style? I had one Holley style regulator that would only adjust with the car off, plus it was noisy. While running it wouldn't budge from the setting. I got rid or it in favor of an Aeromotive regulator.

Yes it is the standard regulator that comes with the blue pump with no return

where is the battery?.....how long is the power wire from the battery to the pump?

our battery is in the trunk just above the pump ..a 12v relay is used to power the pump...the wire just activates the relay

Battery is in the trunk but 10 gauge wire runs from fuse block to the pump

Liquid filled gauge? If so it is the issue. Drain the oil out of it. The gauge gets warm and throws off the reading. I watch mine go from 7 lbs down to zero back to 5 all while idling. Then back to zero for 10 mins still running Drained it and rock steady.

Yep, that´s it. i once thought to better buy a liquid filled gauge because of the dampening…..but engine heat significantly throws off the reading. Get another one or drain the fluid.

I have had the same trouble, drained the gauge, all good !
